Global work culture at Alstom Bharat Forge Pvt. Ltd.
My experience with working with a multinational company like
Alstom as a Quality Engineer has been rewarding, with a work culture that is mulltinational, disciplined and with work ethics and timely completion of project along with compliance to quality and safety . It was the construction of an industrial project in Ahmedabad, India where Alstom was setting up a new manufacturing plant for generators and turbines.
The management was helpful and guided if I had any concerns. We used to have a daily morning meeting which was very useful. The co-workers were supportive.I learned many aspects like working within time constraints, documentation, managing and inspecting works for approval of the contractor and his workforce, and executing work with quality and complying to specifications.Alstom had utmost importance for Quality and Safety along with execution.
The hardest part of the job was sometimes I had to work at nights but I am used to if now since I worked sometimes in the night shifts.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working on behalf of the client and inspecting the works completed by the contractor and ensure compliance to quality and specifications.Traning programmes were the best part at Alstom.

Job description involves the complete monitoring of turnkey projects right from the beginning to the completion of project. The job improved my skills in on-time sales, on-time contract execution, improving profit margin, and negotiations with contractors. It gave me the opportunity to work with diverse cultures and truly global teams. Executing turnkey projects on time was a challenge because of the various uncertainties involved in the project. I was confronted with several challenges at a time, and the job helped me learn to prioritize the given challenges in accordance of their importance and execute them. The enjoyable part was the interaction with various customers and contractors because it widened my perspectives of business with respect to both the customer and contractor.
ProsOpportunity to improve my knowledge by taking up additional projects like six sigma projects, Prince2 certification
ConsThe customer payment was not always on time, hampering the execution of the project.
I am working in Alstom as Global support network Coordinator and WAN project manager for the APAC region. I started my day from 08:00AM and end my working day at 08:00PM/10:00PM IST.
After 05:00PM IST I have to attend global management and global vendor meeting. this meeting started late hours of India time due to global managers and vendors are located in Europe and AMER region.
I have learned how to build a company global process, Team building, vendor development, Global process implementation, improve the project delivery and support services to achieve customer satisfaction.
Co-workers are good
When management is not lessening my decision/idea or not given any suggestion and this same idea they are accepted at the last moment, when do not have sufficient time in hand to complete the task. that is the hardest part of the job to accept.
When I get appreciation from the customer or I completed a project successfully with in given time.
Good learning opportunities with good compensation
-Typical day at work included calls with internal, external stakeholders. Daily 5' meetings regarding all KPIs of procurement. Daily 15' CFT meeting. Daily Assembly Line meetings. KPI management and action plans
-The huge learning from the job is one of the best aspects of the company. I learnt a lot of technical aspects of supply chain ex. MRP, ERP management, Vendor and Inventory management, non-conformity management. Intra-company learnings included Purchasing and costing management, transportation management.
-Management is good but fairness could be improved
-Incredibly hard-working culture
-Hardest part of the job was the work hours. 15 hour work-days were not uncommon even though official working hours were 9.
-Most enjoyable part was the compensation, benefits and the learning
ProsLearning opportunities, compensation
ConsWork hours, Massive workload, Process weakness
The most pressure inducing company. Managers dump the work on their subordinates. Very rarely do you see good managers. Overtime requests are all rejected by default. And unrealistic deadlines are given to complete the task which leads to extending work hours. There are individuals who have worked 12+ hours in the office. In case the task is not completed, you will be made to answer your manager, his manager and his manager instead of giving you additional 3-4 hours time to complete it. Join this company to have zero work-life balance. On the outside, everything is portrayed as Golden. But internally, nothing is right. The pay is not at all enough for the efforts I have put in.Managers do not care about you and then when someone suddenly quits, they act as if they weren't informed at all.
ProsMediclaim and Insurance
ConsExtremely long hours, unrealistic deadlines, no care or concern by manager, 0 support
At time exhaustive and fun work culture, now less learning
Co- workers are very knowledgeable, they have rich experiece in there field and are very helping. I was reporting to AVP- manufacturing technology, he is very frank person and good manager i had. He has extracted best out of me, and utilized my creativity and enthusiasm. I had a good learning once in company, developed skills in facility planning, product planning and machining. The company is having a downtime since long and my learning has suffered a lot. In starting of career, engineer need to learn as much as can, one shouldn't be idle. In this time, i am developing theoretical knowledge in machining and fabrication by reading technical documents and knowledge in CAD softwares. I need to be on live project and enhance my practical knowledge to become an asset by having strong practical hand with theoretical conceptual knowledge.
> My work is quite cool and good for the learner.
> Basically i am from electrical background and i am looking for the procurement of mechanical components also.
> I learned very well about reading of mechanical drawings and got in touch with different kind of manufacturer of the same.
> I got a very good control on negotiation skills as well as technical skills by visiting workshop of Alstom and supplier unit.
> My co-workers are good and very supportive.
> The most enjoyable part of the job is i got in contact with many different kind of people which really helped me in improving my knowledge and gave edge to my networking.
> I can say the hardest part of this job is i am not getting change in my profile which really makes me feel like a non-compatible sometimes. That is why i always learn many things from different people to make my knowledge superior.

Empresa alstom grid

I get a great sense of achievement in the mornings knowing that my place of work is a well-established & respected company, and again when I leave at the end of each day, knowing how/where the work I have produced will be utilised.
Each day can be completely different even though the nature of the work is the same, so flexibility is also required.
Precision / Accuracy / Attention to detail is Essential, along with time management / organisational skills, and a willingness to indulge yourself into any given tasks, as well as being able to communicate effectively with several departments both in & outside of the company.
Working alongside the Engineers was probably the most difficult part of the job, probably just because they have little understanding of relative procedures outside of their own main responsibilities, and so explaining the process behind the action - and then getting them 'on-board' to positively accept this as procedure (coming from myself as a new contractor/employee) - was quite often a challenge!
Overall, I have had an amazing experience here & will be forever grateful for being given the opportunity to show off my knowledge & skills & to prove my ability. This role has allowed me to learn & grow, gain an insight into various other company sectors, as well as being free to leave with my new found knowledge within this industry.
I have met some great people, learned & laughed a lot, and will always remember my time contracting with Alstom as my fi

There is no moral. Everyone that I worked with hates the place and treatment. There union doesn't seem to have a back bone. They don't care for the workers. They treat you as a modern slave almost. too many childish rules for the worker, then for the office workers. Management looks down at the workers. HR is horrible don't trust the head Guy in there. Can't pay there bills and vendors on a timely mater. So your always waiting for parts cause they won't bring them until they get paid. Then they complain when you are not getting things done. Then make you work overtime with no parts to get the job done Really? Who dose that? Or theirs a big rush on something that needs done ASAP and you get done and it sits there for over a week or 2 or 3. Who's Running this place? a Child? Just Feels like there something shady is going on with the upper management and with the money. Like spend $100,000. on equipment but complain if you need or missing parts. It takes weeks to get while you could of gone to the store in town to get in minutes. Organized Far from it. There is a lot of office workers and the place still runs unorganized. You got multiple people from different countries and speck different languages which is great and awesome, but theirs seems a lack of communication going on the line. Some engineers have the worker figure out how to put something together and then draw plains on how the worker put it together and take the credit. Isn't that their job, and why they are gettin

A multi-national, multi-cultural business with manufacturing and project management activities in the UK, Continental Europe and the USA.
The days activities varied very much during my employment with this employer.
During my period as a Project Manager the role became much larger having responsibilities for a small team of engineering staff and sub-contractors for both bought-in own-make products and externally sourced equipment for both simple and complex solutions to HV power supply requirements.
I learned about the requirements for HV AC power supplies and the demanding requirements for engineering design and manufacturing processes during a time of increasing competition. Product development and cost controls are always key. Despite my Manufacturing Director's concerns, I retained my strong commercial view that whilst sales are very important, cash is king.
Over time it was increasingly apparent that UK manufacturing was migrating to the Continent in order to permit economies of scale to be obtained in what had become a very competitive World Market for such products.
The engineering and manufacturing teams both in the UK and abroad were excellent to work with.
Competition between Project Management teams for resources was significant.
There were occasional opportunities to travel to hold meetings with UK and overseas customers and to progress and inspect works being carried out by sister companies and suppliers during the course of project programmes.
ProsTravel and working in multi-cultural teams was a pleasure.
ConsTo much travelling result in long hours and little sleep.
