Highly professional and challenging
Sandvik is a global MNC specializing in various areas ranging from machine tool technology to mining and construction to producing seamless stainless steel pipes and tubes used in piping and heat exchanger industries.
Excellent work ethic and the company was completely committed to its core values - building relationships with clients, ethical business dealings etc.
Joined the company as a fresher in the Marketing and Sales dept. and had "on the job training" for six months which included understanding about the whole production process, dealing with enquires, order processing, costing etc., from a marketing perspective.
Was fortunate to have a group of highly energetic and enthusiastic colleagues around me with my boss at the helm of affairs.
The hardest part was obviously the requirement to work for long hours and trying to achieve the targets.
With highly motivated and professional people around me, it was exciting to outperform each other apart from having each other's back all the time - both during good and bad times.

Being a strategic HR professional I start my day reviewing plan for the day and then catch up with my collegues in different parts of the world, discuss issues to be addressed and then ensure quick action and follow up.
I have learned a lot about different cultures , laws and legislations etc as the scope of my work has taken me in different countries.
I have a major role to play in influencing the behaviour of management team members and coach them so that they follow the leadership model.
My co-workers in HR service team are supportive and I make sure to have regular interactiuon with them at professional and sometimes at personal level and help them and guide them - we address the challenge together as team that's my approach.
The tough part of my work is travelling 20 days in months and climate and time adjustment become tough.. however these days the tarvel has gone down due to cost savings as business results are bad.
The most enjoyable part is that I could help the performance of my team and individuals - that gives me immense satisfaction as I try to add value to individuals and that's much more than money .....
Although my routine Job varies, it generally comprises ensuring a project is fit-for-purpose and adheres to the project budget and schedule, that all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed; I have to account for engineering tasks to ensure they meet contract requirements, develop project-specific procedures for the work to be carried out, ensure all justifications for contractual variations during projects are maintained to support subsequent commercial claims and take responsibility for a team of engineers and Site Supervisors.

It is important to mention that the Hardest part of the job is the most enjoyable part of the job & it is managing customers & keep them satisfied.
It is difficult to convince them when there is any sort of deviation from the project Schedule but it gives you immense pleasure when you convince them & make them understand the reason for the deviation.

Individually I am posted at Udupi to give service to our customers in this area . So only through an email or phone I am communicating with my boss , face to face meetings are very rare in between us.
My work is good but some where its very hard to deal with some kind of customers when I will be single for discussion from my side. Rectify a problem is very interesting and enjoyable part of my job its keep me sharp. Coordination with different customers and prompt reporting these are the things I learned from this job.
But in this company nobody is confident about job security in last year December they throw out some managers and engineers, most of them are very experienced which spend more than 15 years in this company.

Sandvik India, Job type nowadays is somewhat a typical. It doesn't mean to management what the basic qualification is, one needs to work in every field/department. I am a mechanical engineer, my daily job includes,

3. EHS terms what they have developed, to learn and communicate.
4. EHS guide lines, Golden rules, Bla Bla
5. Sale of spare parts.
6. Communication between customer and company.
7. Service of machines is the least job.
Now what the fact is in the first 5 points where the mechanical engineering lies.
Follow of EHS Culture is understood but the rest why.

Professionally managed and enjoyed with rich experience
Overall the work at Sandvik for the past 32 years was enjoyable and learned rich experience in liaise with Govt. Depts., Sales co-ordination and administration, Sales-tax matters, Logistics and order desk. It was memorable experience with my collegues and mixing up with them on day to day work during tenure with Sandvik. The hardest part of my job was while handling jobs with Govt. Depts in
New Delhi during my initial period of my service. The most enjoyable part was while working with sales co-ordn. and logistics.
Good to start work in export-import , manufacturing company.

Uma excelente empresa
começava com reunião entre supervisores,gerência e às vezes diretoria,aprendi muito sobre tribologia(desgaste)na indústria mineira e petrolífera,a direção era bastante acessível;de origem sueca procurava sempre manter os padrões da matriz,os colegas de trabalho eram excelentes c/ raríssima excessões, a parte mais difícil era demonstrar àos clientes qdo. usavam inadequadamente os componentes,daí o baixo rendimento dos mesmos,ensinávamos os uso correto e os problemas eram sanados.Qdo.a Sandvik adquiriu a Strata Bit de Houston,Texas.USA, participei da equipe que introduziu esses equipamentos p/ prospecção petrolífera no Brasil,o que se tratava de uma das partes mais agradáveis do trabalho,a pesquisa e o desenvovimento.Antes da Sandvik tbm tive contato na área naval na Renk onde participei junto ao DEN(Diretoria de Engenharia Naval)na execução de parte do sistema de propulsão das Corvetas da Marinha de Guerra do Brasil.Trabalhei c/todos os tipos de tratamentos térmicos, e controle de qualidade,ensaios destrutivos e não destrutivos bem como as compania classificadoras,como Bureau Veritas,American Bureau of Shipping,Det Norsk Veritas,etc.Também possuo muita experiência no campo da liderança,tendo inclusive ocupado cargo de gerência.Sofriamos auditorias pelo menos 2 vezes ao ano dos nosso colegas suecos e as discrepâncias,se houvessem,eram muito pequenas e perfeitamente sanáveis

A typical day at work, 3 shifts start,6 am,8 am,10 am. I start at 8 am a routine pre-check of machinery i always go through,adhering company's strict H&S procedures.Greet'n to all or who want to be, straight to work there's orders to be pack(orders are categories in 3's Red=emergency,Yellow=priority,White=replenishment orders for other branch countrywide to international, servicesing to mining industries, some need to be machanically pick (heavy parts) that too heavy to lift, must be checked for the quantity, and inspect for damages such rusty, re-painted.Packing in to crates different size pallets (custom made) to save costs.
I have my 1st break at 9:20 breakfast time, energy,energy...my typical breakfast - puff quinoa,spelt,amaranth,cranberrys,gorjberrys with almond milk. quinoa or spelt flakes boil with dates and figs, almond milk.
Pacing is important, there's cut of time all trucks must be loaded by 18:00 for order's to get to customer's the next day(management procedures).Lunch at 13:00 then is full on, to do as much as possible.There's the odd day of attending H&S training, or meeting.
The Management side if things - this always the interesting parts of the work place.Sudden introduction of KPI, employing relatives or partners of employee (from the office) in the company into position that matters.

My typical day at work starts off with following up with suppliers on the progress they have made on the day before, sometimes on the week before which ever have the highest priority. Getting the relevant Project documents in on time and getting them approved.
I take part in Project Meetings to provide the information I have received from the suppliers to the Project team.
I have learned a lot from the industry and the requirements of getting the work done in the best quality, quantity and lead times to our clients. I have gained a lot more self motivation, discipline and confidence in my work and in myself as a person to deal with the stress of the work and getting the job done.
Management has always been a part of what I do at the company as they have contributed to my success at Sandvik Mining Systems.
Wherever any issues arise, Management could always be approached for guidance and assistance in getting a resolution.
Our workplace culture involves everyone from the cleaning staff to top management and everyone gets treated with dignity and respect on the same level. We are all one Sandvik and moving forward as a team.
The hardest part of the job is to get the suppliers to actually stick to their promised and committed delivery dates to the Project Sites.
This has a huge impact on the Project and always have a cost implication.

Buena remuneración, poco crecimiento profesional
La empresa es buena, en temas de remuneraciones y beneficios se preocupan bastante. Sin embargo, en estos cargos es muy poco lo que puedes aprender o utilizar si ya posees conocimientos. También mencionar que el trabajo es en minería subterránea y las condiciones de trabajo son (dependiendo de la persona) un poco inseguras y debes estar dispuesto a tragar polvo, estar cochino y dormir poco (son 16 horas fuera de tu hogar). Destacar como trabajador es difícil, pero no imposible. Lamentablemente el entorno o ambiente laboral de Codelco y también en Sandvik es muy competitivo, si bien puedes tener compañeros que te apoyan, el otro 80% quiere te equivoques. Tenerlo bien en cuenta, si decides trabajar en Sandvik.
Puedes optar a más colaciones y chocas frías, bebidas durante el turno. Aparte de tu almuerzo.
Se preocupan en capacitarte y darte herramientas para poder trabajar.
Lo otro es que el sistema que proporciona Sandvik es propio. Por ende, todo lo que aprendas te servirá solamente para Sandvik.
Es muy importante saber inglés.
También es estresante porque debes aparte de hacer tu turno de mantenimiento, generar un reporte de producción. Muchas veces no se podía terminar en el turno y debías terminarlo en tu casa, al final terminabas durmiendo 3-4 horas. (Digamos que son turnos 7x7). Lo otro es que no puedes decir que no a nada, te presionan porque lo importante es la producción del sistema.
Bueno, una cosa buena es el turno 7x7. 7 días trabajas y 7 descansas.

Realizo acompanhamento de atividades e programação de manutenções de maquinas e equipamentos. Realizo requisições de compras e levantamento de novas aquisições para melhoria dos processos. Atualizo as planilhas de controle . Organização e limpeza do local de trabalho no final do expediente.
* Tenho aprendido muito, pois, tenho um dia bem dinamico e com atividades variadas e isto tem trabalhado meu lado versátil , onde as vezes é necessário pausar uma atividade e iniciar outra sem que isto prejudique o andamento dos processos . Algumas atividades demendam de muita resposabilidade e isto trabalha meu foco e concentração.
*Tenho uma boa gestão. Meu gestores são pessoas ótimas para trabalhar , na realidade atuam como facilitadores em grande parte, mas , quando necessario direcionam conforme os níveis de importancia .
*Tenho um bom relacionamento com meus colegas de trabalho, porém, acredito que qualquer relação, ela depende do quanto as duas partes envolvidas estão dispostas a se dar bem, umas com as outras mas aqui temos um bom ambiente de trabalho e isto ajuda bastante.
* O retrabalho na minha opnião é a parte mais dificíl de ser administrada.
* É muito gratificante quando executo uma unica vez munha atividade com exelencia.

Um dia típico do meu trabalho na Sandvik envolvia várias tarefas, como:
- Elaboração de processos de produção;
- Planejamento das ordens de produção;
- Cotação para o mercado local e exportação;
- Controle do estoque de matéria prima e produtos semi-acabados;
- Reunião com a produção;
- Análise dos indicadores;
- Contato com os fornecedores;
- Atualização dos prazos para o setor de vendas;
- Importação e/ou compras de material para a produção;
- Acompanhamento das filas e carga máquina da produção;
- Agendamento de hora extra, caso necessário.
Em minha passagem por essa empresa aprendi sobre cotação, compras técnicas, planejamento da produção, também adquiri experiência com as ferramentas da qualidade como ISO 9000, ISO 14000, 5S, Lean Manufacturing e Kaizen.
O ambiente de trabalho é muito bom, e os colegas de trabalho são comprometidos e pro ativos com as tarefas a serem realizadas.
A parte mais difícil do trabalho era ver um amigo se despedir, pois sempre houve muita colaboração entre as pessoas para alcançar os objetivos.
A parte mais agradável em meu trabalho era a possibilidade de interferir positivamente nos resultados referente a satisfação do cliente. O pessoal da produção é muito técnico e comprometido, o que facilitava o nosso trabalho na parte de planejamento e de processo de usinagem.

Micromanagement mixed with a Union who simply doesn’t care…
between you the Union employee and the ones in management who are all non union employees and it always something that we’re not following correctly instead all the progress we made the company. It’s never good enough so you are definitely unappreciated and untrustworthy to the upper none union members who get to bend the rules for favoritism but treat others the opposite…. They wait for you to slip then watch you fall and don’t loose a second of sleep about it…. Was laid off for a full year as a nondestructive certified level one Ultrasonics testing operator and just because I struggled in my personal life and was on negative attendance steps I still had a chance to get that dropped off but they never gave me a call back so now they hire new people and I’m gonna be nothing at the job I loved and dedicated a ton of my overtime time into. Who’s thinking about applying here will regret it soon after seeing the big picture trust me they gave every employee a whole cupcake for going 2 full years without a lose time injury’s…. A cupcake!! I could go on but I’d rather not… best of luck… stay as far from the inspection department as possible….

Jag har nyligen arbetat som Copywriter på HR-Services där en typisk arbetsdag kan innebära att skapa annonsmaterial, skriva rekryteringsannonser, kreera rubriksättningar som ska vara i enlighet med Sandviks visuella/verbala identitet och skapa annonsunderlag i InDesign eller Photoshop. Jag har hela tiden fått använda min kreativitet och min skaparlust när jag skrivit copytexter för att locka sökanden samt fånga intresset för vissa yrkesroller/avdelningar inom Sandvik. Jag har fått med mig mycket kunskaper inom strategiarbetet för Copyfunktionen, Sandviks visuella/verbala identitet samt vidareutvecklat mina redan goda engelskakunskaper och dagligen hanterat kunder globalt. Både ledningen och mina arbetskollegor har varit fantastiska, då vi Copywriters sitter i samma lokaler som rekryterare och rekryteringsassistenter har det många gånger underlättat arbetsgången, något som även varit en del av Sandvik HR Services Lean Management-modell. Den bästa delen med att vara Copywriter på Sandvik HR Services är att de just nu befinner sig i en spännande förändringsresa, där mycket strategiarbete och kontaktknytande pågår inom avdelningarna och en ny modell för Copyfunktionen håller på att arbetas fram.
Ran a cell of four to five machines at a time, some days with a partner others days alone.
I worked with a very nice crew of people which I got along with very well. We would start off every morning getting a list of the jobs w needed to get shipped out first and set the mchines up for the rest of the day. I was acutally offered a chance to go to sweden to learn programing for the up coming software we were getting for a laser marking machines. I also learned and re-organized gripper inventory and how to rebuild them from top to bottom. I could run two Camillas' which were laser marking machines using robotics they would laser etch and package the inserts, a Labella which with would lable the bar codes and part identifcation and info and push them into packing boxes that we would then lid and label with the outside barcodes. Also in our cells we hade a manual laser marking machine i could set up and this when i free time as well, and last we had an Else and we used that for traying inserts that needed to put into different trays. Management didn't really have a big part to with us unless something was wrong and then the department manager would step in. We hardly saw him other then those times. The most enjoyable part of my job was it would keep you busy if the work flow was up.

Trabajaba en un ambiente muy ameno, con un equipo de personas muy agradable. Tuve la posibilidad de formarme íntegramente en el área soft de recursos humanos dado que comencé a trabajar ni bien me recibí de Licenciada en Administración. Al ser ésta una carrera generalista, la experiencia fue de suma importancia para mi desarrollo, logrado con el apoyo de mis colegas y con la libertad de acción que promovía la gerencia del sector y de la Dirección. Respecto a la dificultad en el trabajo, en ocasiones el presupuesto destinado a capacitación, condicionaba el completo desarrollo de los planes de entrenamiento, el cual afrontamos en función de las prioridades marcadas por la estrategia de la Compañía. Lo que más disfruté de mi paso por Sandvik, fue el haber sido parte de una empresa que transmitía sus valores y que confiaba en la capacidad y calidad de trabajo de sus recursos humanos,lo cual se traducía en un excelente clima para trabajar.
