Overall Reviews at Voltas

Productive and Learning workplace
This was indeed the organization where I learned the most about process equipment, integration of different components to make an equipment, the installation of equipment, trouble shooting during installation and commissioning, marketing of equipment, customer negotiations, equipment costing and pricing based on actual purchase values, ensuring profit margins for the company etc. among technical skills development.
Among other skills I learned making reports and presentations for higher management, working on Management Information Systems, working on ERP systems such as preparation of Purchase Orders, billing and costing, understanding ledger and profit/loss statements, answering to Auditors queries, various forms of applicable commercial taxation and road permits etc. to mention a few.
The hardest part of the job was extremely frequent travelling, due to which there was always a visible imbalance between work and family. At that time laptop computers were not so common as they are now, so there was always work backlog that required more time to be overcome when back in office.
The most enjoyable part of the job was indeed being part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the organization.
ProsDiversified learning was available, which transformed me into a one man army, literally.
ConsWork / family imbalance was dominant, and holidays could not be taken there, which eventually were encashed at appropriate times.

Incompetitive leadership
A Tata legacy with generous but incompetitive leadership makes this a career disaster. Some old jerks and eccentric hunks sitting in the leadership are creating an environment that is leading to a very high attrition rate. People are seemingly scolded to the point that they feel terrible to work here. VRS to the unionized employees have got a remarkable response because of this.
There are extremely long working hours - many a times it is expected to work in the office in day times and at sites in nights - looks impossible but is a fact!
No attention is given to training to the employees. People are supposed to be self learners even in technical areas.
The Bangalore office was much better as compared to the Mumbai HO as far as training is concerned.
ProsJob security to the thick skinned ones!
ConsBoth career and work life balance go at a toss.

Good company for training and gain initial experience
Work atmosphere overall is friendly.
Government joblike environment.
Employees are not actively engaged.
Management of biased.
Co-workers are absolutelly co-operative and helpful.
A typical day at work depends on stage of the project - Initial and mid stage s of projects are slow and stedy. Staff enjoy family life and extra curricular entertainment also.
Its the best place to learn - I learnt SAP R/3 MM Module ERP, Focus R/3 ERP for materials management, ISO Standard procedures. MS-Office.
Hardest part of the job is you are not paid according to your experience and and expertise.
The most enjoyable part of job is that co-workers are helpful and coperate on personal individual level outside scope of work also.
ProsFriendly atmosphere
ConsEmployees are tolerated even if incompetent

Prodcutive Place & lots of things to learn employee will be self dependent & able to compete in every field.
A Day start with lots of pressure daily reports of branch evaluation will be segregated to branch of ASM performance in field & after that regular coordination with ASF for close the calls timely in system & basic things to learn there is how u handle a pressure in heavy call load that is a biggest challenge & the mangement of company is supportive & culture is very good for work & the hardest part of the job is to interact directly with customer when parts are out of stock & then it's very difficult to satisfy a customer & the most enjoyable part is workplace culture is good & helpful .
ProsFree lunches only in closing

They will not let the matter go till the head office to save the image & prestige of there Kolkata office. Everyone there is bad & spoiled people from the HR East Zone Manager to the Territory Manager to the Admin Head. All have extra martial affairs & spoiled people.
Survival is only possible of you agree them & start doing dirty things. All kinds of promotion & other facilities will be provided to you.

Voltas is my best organisation, however, advancement is difficult because it is a corporate HR and appointments are being carried out in main office i
At Voltas, we have the freedom to do our work with consent from our superiors. We assign the works according to their experiences, we fulfils a days work productively. Everybody is accountable to their actions. We extend our timing to finish the work if necessary without any compensation because as Engineer, we are all responsible for completion of works. The management is also supporting us and we conduct meeting routinely to discuss the issues. Harmony towards each staff is being implemented, we have TATA code of conduct to follow in our daily life.We encourage learning and growth with each staff, we mentor everyone as necessary.
The hardest part of the job is the testing and commissioning wherein all staff are required to deliver their services as per client and statutory requirement.
The most enjoyable is Partying with staff, we used to celebrate birthdays and milestone, even those leaving the Company is being celebrated thru farewells.
ProsParty and cakes during birthdays/attained Milestone of the project
ConsComplete medical facility and Saturday offs, even breaks during personal issues at home

Productive with stress
*There was slab concrete and we have the shortage of electrical condute and we feel shame in front of main contractor becouse the slab was delayed and it happened becouse of the mis co-ordination between procurement and supplier.
*The procurement department should have person who must have site experience and familier with the difficulties at site.
*Top managements are good but some of line managers playing politics only becouse of jelousy & trying to know about the salaries of new commers and then playing games just to show that even there salary is low but they better.
*co-workers became good friends after some time with little efforts & the envorment became friendly.
*To proof yourself in front of your boss.
*when you recived material at site specially when you are working in desert 400 km.away from the city.
*
Prosfood was free becouse it was in desert (qusahwira near oman & saudi border)adnoc project.
Conslong hours till 9 or 10 pm start from 6am.

The Employees are encourage to have a balanced lifestyle
To obtain once goal, and encourage the people as a team in order to have a productive accomplishment which will benefit everyone as a whole within the management.
The company also encourages a balanced workplace culture where company schedule a recreational sport where project site staff and employees compete in a certain sport activity which is usually is a Cricket game for most of the employees are Indian national. It helps to mingle and associate with other people as friend and family and not as an employee or staff with your colleague. In every thing we do there are always trials which you have to attend to such as extending working hours, wherein surely it relieves once self when you accomplish it with your team and problems are solved with the guidance of our God almighty.
ProsFree lunch when target date is obtained
ConsLeisure breaks

Very productive both for company and staff.
Very good company. But Improvement is only made if you have close relationi with the higher management level above Project. Extremely slow and no improvement for those who work average. People are mostly satisfied until finding another job. Rules and regulations are very tight and good. Easily approachable to all management level people. People are some time mad and shouting culture. pressurising is from top to lower level. No balance of life and work. If the work is not finished you cannot go home. forget about the vacation. You want to go vacation and if the project is in final stagethen think that you are terminated.
Prosvery good and friendly people including management.
Consjob insecurity, and no improvements.
