Key Responsibilities1. Clinical Excellence & Patient Care
- Assess and monitor patient vitals, symptoms, and medical progress to report changes directly to doctors.
- Administer complex medications, IV fluids, injections, and blood products according to strict hospital protocols.
- Perform advanced nursing procedures including IV cannulation, catheterisation, and Ryle's tube insertion.
- Manage patient transitions by coordinating smooth admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Respond to emergencies quickly, leading resuscitation or critical care efforts during crisis situations. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
2. Team Leadership & Ward Management
- Supervise junior nurses, nursing students, and support staff to ensure optimal care standards.
- Delegate duties and plan daily nursing assignments based on patient care needs.
- Manage unit operations including shift allocations, duty rotations, and arranging staff replacements.
- Deputise for the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse during their absence to ensure seamless operations.

3. Inventory & Quality Control
- Maintain ward inventory by checking, ordering, and maintaining adequate stocks of drugs, life-saving equipment, and supplies.
- Enforce infection control protocols, ensuring proper disinfection, sterilization, and biomedical waste management.
- Audit medical records and care plans to ensure documentation meets legal and regulatory healthcare standards. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
4. Mentorship & Education
- Coach new hires and junior nurses through structured orientation and clinical training programs.
- Assess staff competencies periodically to help maintain professional development goals.

Job Requirements & Qualifications Education & Licensure
- Degree or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or B.Sc. Nursing.
- Active registration with the relevant state or national Nursing Council.
- Certifications: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificates are highly preferred. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Experience
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of active post-registration clinical experience as a staff nurse.
- Prior experience in a leadership, mentoring, or charge nurse role is preferred. [1, 2]
