Job Summary: A Staff Nurse is a key member of the healthcare team responsible for providing direct patient care, promoting health education, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. They work under the supervision of physicians and nurse managers to deliver high-quality care to patients across various healthcare settings.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Assess patients' health conditions and develop individualized care plans.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and report any significant changes to the healthcare team.
- Assist with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
- Health Education:
- Educate patients and families about their medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
- Teach patients about medication administration, dietary guidelines, and lifestyle modifications.
- Provide resources and referrals to community support services as needed.
- Documentation and Communication:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurse colleagues, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Document patient progress, responses to treatments, and any adverse events according to institutional protocols.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, therapists, and social workers, to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and patient care meetings to discuss treatment goals and progress.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to nursing assistants and other support staff while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes.
- Follow evidence-based practice guidelines and adhere to regulatory standards and institutional policies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development of best practices within the nursing unit.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) may be required for certain specialties.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment: Staff Nurses work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and community health centers. They may work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage for patient care.
