Our flagship educational robotics project, Poppy The EdBot, is an autonomous AI-powered classroom telepresence robot designed to enable students to attend classes remotely while maintaining a real classroom presence.
We are looking for highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineers to help design and develop the physical architecture of the robot.
Position Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing the complete physical structure of Poppy The EdBot.
You will work on:
- Industrial design
- Mechanical architecture
- Product aesthetics
- Internal packaging
- Chassis engineering
- Docking station design
- Manufacturing preparation
You will collaborate with Robotics Engineers, Embedded Engineers, and Product Designers to create a production-ready robotic platform.
Key ResponsibilitiesCAD Design
Design complete 3D CAD assemblies using:
- Fusion 360
- SolidWorks
- Blender (Optional)
Create:
- Head assembly
- Neck assembly
- Body structure
- Mobility base
- Docking station
Product Engineering
Design:
- Structural components
- Mounting systems
- Internal brackets
- Cable routing systems
- Service panels
Battery Integration
Design:
- Battery compartments
- Battery locking systems
- Charging interface integration
Ensure safe and accessible maintenance.
Mobility System Design
Develop:
- Wheel systems
- Motor mounts
- Drive assemblies
- Sensor mounting systems
Optimize stability and movement.
Docking Station Design
Design:
- Charging dock
- Alignment guides
- Contact mechanisms
- Protective housing
Manufacturing Preparation
Create:
- Engineering drawings
- Exploded assemblies
- Part lists
- Manufacturing documentation
Prepare designs for:
- 3D Printing
- CNC Machining
- Injection Molding (Future)
