The Senior Staff Nurse – OT is responsible for providing high-quality perioperative nursing care in the Operation Theatre, with a strong focus on maternity cases, especially LSCS (Lower Segment Caesarean Section). The role includes assisting surgeons, maintaining OT protocols, ensuring patient safety, and supervising junior nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:1. Patient Care & Safety
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, especially LSCS cases
- Ensure proper identification, consent, and pre-operative checklist completion
- Monitor patient condition before, during, and after surgery
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection control practices
2. OT Management
- Prepare and maintain OT equipment, instruments, and sterile supplies
- Ensure availability of surgical instruments required for LSCS and other obstetric procedures
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, and pediatricians during procedures
- Handle emergency obstetric cases efficiently
3. Surgical Assistance
- Assist doctors during LSCS and other gynecological surgeries
- Perform scrubbing, circulating, and assisting roles as required
- Manage surgical instruments and count (before and after procedures)
4. Post-Operative Care
- Shift patients safely to recovery room
- Monitor post-operative recovery and vital signs
- Assist in post-surgical documentation and handover
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate OT records, patient charts, and surgical logs
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH protocols, and legal requirements
- Report any incidents or complications promptly
6. Team Supervision & Training
- Guide and supervise junior nurses and OT technicians
- Participate in training, drills, and continuous quality improvement programs
Eligibility Criteria:
- Qualification: B.Sc Nursing / GNM
- Registration: Valid State Nursing Council Registration
- Experience:
- Minimum 4–6 years of experience in OT
- Mandatory experience in maternity OT with LSCS procedures
