Job Title: ICU Staff Nurse

Location: Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani

Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

As an ICU Staff Nurse at Kauvery Hospital, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. You will utilize your advanced nursing skills and knowledge to monitor patients, provide support and education to their families, and work alongside an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care Management:

- Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients upon admission to the ICU, including initial vital signs monitoring, neurological assessments, and understanding patients’ medical histories.

- Monitoring: Continuously monitor patient status, interpreting hemodynamic data, ECG readings, and laboratory results, adjusting care based on changing conditions.

- Interventions: Implement nursing interventions based on evidence-based practices, including but not limited to:

- Administration of medications (IV push, infusion, oral), blood products, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) as ordered.

- Management of invasive lines (arterial lines, central venous catheters, ventilators).

- Wound care management for surgical and trauma patients.

2. Critical Care Protocols:

- Perform advanced procedures within the scope of practice, such as intubations and extubations, insertion and management of chest tubes, and use of various ventilator modes.

- Follow ICU protocols for sedation management, pain management, and glycemic control in critically ill patients.

- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, contributing to patient care discussions and care plan formulations.

3. Documentation and Compliance:

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR), including patient assessment findings, interventions, medication administration details, and patient responses to treatment.

- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies, including infection control practices and quality assurance measures.

4. Family and Patient Education:

- Provide education to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans, fostering understanding and cooperation.

- Offer emotional support and counseling to families dealing with end-of-life decisions and critical illness.

5. Emergency Response and Resuscitation:

- Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, leading Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) interventions as needed.

- Serve as a key member of the code blue team, ensuring the timely execution of emergency protocols.

6. Professional Development:

- Participate in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending workshops, webinars, and in-service training.

- Engage in quality improvement initiatives by analyzing patient outcomes and participating in clinical audits.

Qualifications:

Education:

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from an accredited nursing program.

Licensure:

- Valid and current Registered Nurse (RNRM) license from the TamilNadu Nursing Council.

Experience:

- Minimum of 1-10 years of clinical experience in an ICU or critical care setting preferred.

- Experience with specific critical care equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps, hemodynamic monitoring devices) is highly advantageous.

Certifications:

- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from recognized providers.

- Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) is a plus.

Skills:

- Proficient in advanced nursing techniques, critical care protocols, and technology relevant to critical care practice.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.

- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Working Conditions:

- The position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

- Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting and moving patients, and responding quickly in emergency situations.
