Data Scientist II, Analytics
Intro to team
The Product Team creates high-quality end-to-end experiences for travelers, partners, and Expedia Group. Our focus on customer-centric innovation enables us to develop products that build loyalty and repeat business. We partner closely with teams across Expedia Group to drive growth and achieve results for our customers and the company.
In this role you will
Partner closely with Product Managers, User Experience, and Technology teams to solve business and customer problems using data
Analyze customer behavior across the property experience journey, including property content, merchandising, pricing presentation, and conversion performance
Use SQL, Python, R, or similar tools to extract, structure, transform, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources
Frame clear business questions, define success metrics, and connect analysis to product decisions
Design, evaluate, and interpret experiments, including A/B tests, pre/post analyses, and other approaches that help answer product and business questions
Identify friction points in the customer journey and generate actionable insights and recommendations for stakeholders
- Support model building and analytics projects by applying statistical techniques such as regression, clustering, and descriptive analysis
- Leverage statistical skillset to solve varied business challenges
Select the right measurement approach for the problem and recommend simple or more complex experiment designs as needed
Interpret results using sound statistical judgment, including understanding trade-offs between statistical significance and practical significance
Create clear, effective visualizations and communicate findings in a way that is meaningful to both technical and non-technical audiences
Work iteratively with stakeholders to refine requirements, define scope, and evolve analyses based on new learnings
Follow best practices for reproducibility, documentation, data quality checks, and query performance optimization
Collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, geographically distributed team working across India and London
Technologies we use:
Experience and qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative or technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience
2+ years of relevant experience in data analytics, product analytics, or a comparable analytics role
Demonstrated experience delivering data-driven insights and recommendations that influenced stakeholder decisions or improved business performance
Intermediate experience using SQL and either Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis, data transformation, and visualization
Understanding of product analytics fundamentals, including framing clear problem statements, selecting the right success metrics, and translating analysis into business action
Working knowledge of statistics and probability, including false positives, statistical significance, regression analysis, and analysis of variance
Experience designing or analyzing experiments such as A/B tests, with an understanding of experiment design, sample sizing, guardrails, and trade-offs
Understanding of common analytical and modeling approaches, including linear regression, logistic regression, and clustering, and the types of data needed to support them
Ability to combine data from different sources and create structured datasets or basic workflows to support analytics and modeling
Proficient communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present insights and recommendations clearly to stakeholders
Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and business judgment
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize well, and collaborate with distributed stakeholders and teammates
Stakeholder management skills and a proactive, can-do approach to problem solving
Please note that this role is only available in Bangalore, in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week.
