Job Description – Medical Transcriptionist

Position: Medical Transcriptionist
Department: Medical Records / Administration
Location: Hospital / Healthcare Facility
Experience: Minimum 3–4 Years (Hospital Experience Preferred)

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Medical Transcriptionist to accurately transcribe doctors' handwritten prescriptions, medical notes, clinical reports, and patient records into electronic format. The ideal candidate should possess excellent typing speed, strong knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to maintain accuracy while working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

Transcribe doctors' prescriptions, consultation notes, discharge summaries, and medical reports accurately.
Convert handwritten medical records into digital format with high precision.
Ensure proper use of medical terminology, abbreviations, and clinical documentation standards.
Review and proofread transcribed documents for spelling, grammar, and medical accuracy.
Coordinate with doctors and medical staff to clarify unclear information when required.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital policies regarding medical records.
Update and organize electronic patient records in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
Complete transcription tasks within assigned timelines while maintaining quality standards.
Assist in preparing medical certificates, referral letters, and other clinical documents as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Graduate in any discipline (Medical/Healthcare background preferred).
Certification in Medical Transcription is an added advantage.
Excellent English typing skills with a minimum speed of 50–70 WPM.
Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, medications, and clinical procedures.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
Ability to read and interpret doctors' handwritten prescriptions and notes.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic center.
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
Experience handling outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) medical documentation.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Accuracy of transcription documents.
Typing speed and productivity.
Timely completion of assigned work.
Compliance with confidentiality and documentation standards.
Error-free maintenance of patient medical records.

Salary: As per experience and hospital standards.
Employment Type: Full-Time
