About GR Scholastic LLP
GR Scholastic LLP is an international knowledge, research, conference, publishing, and business networking organization. We are building a next-generation SaaS platform for conference and research management to surpass existing solutions such as EasyChair.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager with a strong background in product-based companies who can lead the complete product lifecycle, build and manage the engineering team, and deliver a scalable SaaS platform from concept to launch.
As the technical lead, you will be responsible for deeply understanding how our organization runs conferences — how we currently use our existing tool day to day — and turning that understanding into a reliable, well-structured product. You will lead the development effort, not simply execute a fixed spec.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead end-to-end product development from concept to launch.
· Translate business requirements into product roadmaps, PRDs, user stories, and sprint plans.
· Hire and lead developers, QA, UI/UX, DevOps, and other technical resources.
· Coordinate architecture, development, testing, deployment, and releases.
· Drive Agile/Scrum execution and ensure timely delivery.
· Ensure scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
· Collaborate with founders to define product vision and strategy.
· Implement engineering best practices and manage technical risks.
· Own the architecture, Design the data model, service boundaries, APIs, and deployment approach for the platform, and make the key technical decisions.
· Build the core. Personally implement the hardest parts — role-based access control, review assignment, conflict-of-interest handling, and reliable email/notification delivery.
· Lead a small team. Review all code, set coding and testing standards, break work into shippable pieces, and mentor 3–5 mid-level developers so they grow quickly.
· Own production. Take responsibility for deployment, monitoring, and reliability —including the high-load periods around submission deadlines when the system must stay up.
Lay the foundation for scale — clean structure, documentation, and practices that let the team grow to 5–6 engineers without rework.
Key Modules to Build:
· Conference & Event Management
· Abstract & Paper Submission
· Peer Review Workflow
· Reviewer Assignment
· Author & Reviewer Dashboards
· Program Committee Management
· Registration & Payment
· Journal Submission Workflow
· Proceedings & Certificate Generation
· Email Automation
· Reports & Analytics
· Role-based Access
· AI-powered Reviewer Recommendation
· AI-assisted Paper Checks
· Plagiarism Integration
· API Integrations
· Cloud Document Management
Required Skills:
· 6-8 years in software product development.
· 3–5+ years leading engineering teams.
· Experience in product-based companies and SaaS platforms.
· Strong understanding of system architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, databases, Agile/Scrum, SDLC.
· Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
· Has personally owned at least one system end-to-end in production — architecture, deployment, and being the person responsible when it breaks. (This matters more than years.)
· Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) — real schema design, indexing, and handling meaningful query load, not just CRUD over flat tables.
· Solid grounding in authentication, authorization, and role-based permission systems.
· Experience building REST APIs and reasoning about clean API design.
· Experience with background job processing and reliable transactional email in production.
· Has led or mentored other developers, even informally (tech lead, code review owner, mentor).
Able to work self-sufficiently with minimal technical oversight and make sound decisions independently.

What We Are Looking For:
Deep expertise in our exact stack is a strong plus, but not mandatory. A strong engineer with years in a comparable stack (e.g. Django, Rails, Spring, .NET) who can ramp up quickly is welcome — we filter hard on fundamentals, not framework labels. A builder with strong ownership, product thinking, leadership, strategic decision-making, and a passion for creating a world-class SaaS product for the global research and conference ecosystem.
Nice to have:
· Experience with systems that have deadline-driven traffic spikes (registration, ticketing, payments, exam, or submission platforms).
· Familiarity with workflow-heavy applications (multi-role approval flows, state machines).
· DevOps / self-hosting experience (Docker, CI/CD, Nginx, server monitoring).
· Exposure to academic, publishing, or research tooling.
· Experience as an early/founding engineer on a product.
