Job Summary
The Emergency & Casualty Physician (MEM) is responsible for providing timely, high-quality emergency medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, trauma, and life-threatening conditions. The physician will assess, stabilize, diagnose, and initiate treatment while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) and Casualty.
- Perform rapid triage and prioritize patient care based on clinical severity.
- Stabilize critically ill or injured patients according to established emergency protocols.
- Manage medical, surgical, trauma, pediatric, and obstetric emergencies within the scope of practice.
- Perform emergency procedures, including airway management, endotracheal intubation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), central venous access, wound management, fracture stabilization, and other lifesaving interventions.
- Interpret laboratory investigations, ECGs, X-rays, and other diagnostic reports.
- Initiate appropriate treatment and coordinate referrals or admissions to specialty departments.
- Monitor patients under observation and ensure timely reassessment.
- Participate in disaster management and mass casualty response when required.
Patient Safety & Quality
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, clinical protocols, and patient safety standards.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and mortality/morbidity reviews.
- Report adverse events and clinical incidents as per hospital policy.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Complete emergency case sheets, treatment notes, discharge summaries, medico-legal documentation, and referral records.
- Ensure proper documentation for insurance and statutory requirements where applicable.
Collaboration
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing staff, laboratory, radiology, ICU, OT, and other departments for comprehensive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and prognosis.
- Supervise and guide junior doctors, interns, and emergency department staff as assigned.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- Master of Emergency Medicine (MEM) from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the State Medical Council or National Medical Commission (NMC).
Experience
- 0–2 years: Fresh MEM graduates may apply.
- 2–5 years: Experience in Emergency Medicine or Casualty is preferred.
