Job Purpose
As a Special Educator at Sparsh Centre, you will work closely with the Centre Manager to assess, plan, implement, document, and report on the specific needs of students with Deafblindness/Multiple Disabilities (Db/MD). Your primary goal will be teaching and training students to enhance their functional skills and developmental levels while empowering their caregivers.
Key Responsibilities1. Direct Student Intervention & Skill Building
- Conduct holistic assessments of students with Db/MD to identify their current functioning levels using appropriate tools.
- Formulate, implement, and periodically review Individualised Educational Programmes (IEPs) and daily/weekly schedules for each student.
- Deliver tailored 1-on-1 or small-group teaching and skill-building activities.
- Design and prepare customized, need-based Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs).
- Actively support students in identifying and participating in enjoyable, purposeful, and stimulating activities to improve their overall quality of life.
- Provide educational and training services in home-based settings as required.
2. Content, Administration & Awareness
- Contribute regular case studies, documentation, and progress reports for internal and external tracking.
- Draft content matter for in-house publications and collaborate across departments on content issues.
- Plan and manage educational outings and field trips for students.
- Assist in the overall administration and smooth execution of daily centre activities.
3. Stakeholder Capacity Building & Engagement
- Conduct periodic meetings with families and caregivers, providing them with actionable strategies to continue holistic development at home.
- Undertake sensitization and training sessions on Db/MD for a wide range of external stakeholders and community members.
Job Requirements & Person SpecificationMandatory Qualifications:
- RCI Registration: Must possess a valid registration certificate from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
- Education: Ideally a Graduate in a disability field (Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities). Preference will be given to graduates (any stream) holding a Diploma or higher education in Deafblindness/Multiple Disabilities (Db/MD).
- Technical Communication: Practical knowledge of Sign Language, Braille, and alternative communication methods to work effectively with students with Db/MD.
- Computer Literacy: Ability to confidently operate MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer setups.
Desirable Criteria (Preferred but not dealbreakers):
- Experience: Preferably a minimum of 2 years of prior experience working with children and adults with disabilities.
- Language Skills: Written and spoken communication proficiency in English and Kannada (knowledge of other local languages is a distinct advantage).
- Travel: Willingness to travel both locally and nationally for training or fieldwork.
