A System Administrator (SysAdmin) is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing an organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, operating systems, and user accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery procedures.
- Install software updates, security patches, and antivirus solutions.
- Monitor server uptime and ensure high availability.
- Configure and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Maintain documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Support end users by resolving technical issues.
- Implement and maintain security policies to protect organizational data.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux administration.
- Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with backup and monitoring tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications are an advantage, such as:
- CompTIA Server+
- CompTIA Network+
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
