## About Threads Uniform Agency & The Role
Threads Uniform Agency is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for a critical, end-to-end cloud modernization engagement.
In this role, you will lead the migration of our legacy, single-server e-commerce stack into a modern, secure, and PCI-compliant Azure environment. The current setup runs NopCommerce, SQL Server, IIS, and SFTP bundled on a single legacy AWS EC2 instance. You will be responsible for unbundling this monolith into highly available, separated compute, database, and file-transfer tiers.
Threads Uniform Agency already has a sketched target architecture in place. You will not be starting from a blank page; instead, you will validate, refine, and execute this vision. This is a high-ownership, independent role covering infrastructure architecture, hands-on Azure provisioning, and building critical data pipelines from our on-premises SQL layer (fed by a SaaS ERP) into a cloud data lake. You will work closely with our client-side IT Director and a separate offshore vendor handling the parallel e-commerce platform upgrade.
## Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Azure Provisioning: Validate and refine the sketched target architecture; hands-on provisioning of VNets, Azure SQL, Blob Storage, Key Vault, and IAM/RBAC using Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Monolith Unbundling: Deconstruct the existing single-server setup into dedicated, secure, and scalable cloud tiers.
- Data Pipeline Engineering: Build robust batch ETL pipelines (full + incremental loads) using Azure Data Factory to move data from SQL Server sources into a cloud data lake.
- Security & PCI Compliance: Establish and document a PCI DSS-compliant baseline, ensuring robust network segmentation, access controls, and strict encryption at rest and in transit.
- Integration Mapping: Map and validate integration points with third-party SaaS solutions (ERP-as-SaaS, tax services, payment processors, and EDI/punch-out connectors).
- Documentation: Maintain strict documentation discipline, delivering Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), operational runbooks, and a phased migration roadmap.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as an independent expert, reviewing third-party vendor proposals and translating technical tradeoffs clearly during weekly syncs with the IT Director.
## Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure core services (VNet, Azure SQL, Blob Storage, Azure Monitor, Key Vault, IAM/RBAC).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven expertise using Terraform or ARM/Bicep.
- Data Integration: Solid experience with Azure Data Factory (or equivalent ETL/orchestration tools) building pipelines from SQL Server.
- Database Expertise: Strong SQL Server background with the ability to reverse-engineer and document existing schemas.
- Scripting: Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or Bash to migrate and adapt legacy automation workflows.
- Compliance: Direct exposure to PCI DSS requirements and compliance documentation.
- Independence: Proven track record of working successfully as a solo engineer on a project without a secondary backup resource.
### Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills
- Familiarity with third-party cloud monitoring/observability tools (e.g., DataDog).
- Experience with managed file transfer/SFTP gateway products (e.g., Couchdrop, GoAnywhere, JSCAPE).
- Exposure to CDN/WAF tools (e.g., Cloudflare).
- Experience working alongside external SOC/security monitoring vendors.
