Assembly & Packing Supervisor — Roles & Responsibilities
An Assembly & Packing Supervisor is responsible for managing the final stages of modular furniture production, ensuring that components are correctly assembled, quality-checked, labelled, protected, packed, and made ready for dispatch or installation.
1. Assembly Planning & Execution
- Execute the assembly plan according to production priorities.
- Allocate assembly jobs to workers based on workload and skill.
- Ensure furniture is assembled according to approved drawings and assembly instructions.
- Monitor daily assembly targets and completion.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Planning, and Dispatch teams.
2. Assembly Supervision
Supervise assembly of:
- Modular kitchens
- Wardrobes
- Workstations
- Cabinets
- Storage units
- Reception counters
- TV units
- Desks and tables
- Other modular/custom furniture
- Check correct joining, alignment, squareness, and fixing.
- Ensure correct hardware and accessories are installed.
- Verify doors, drawers, hinges, runners, handles, locks, and other fittings.
- Ensure assembly is completed without damaging finished surfaces.
3. Drawing & BOM Verification
- Ensure assembly teams use the latest approved drawings.
- Verify components against the BOM and packing list.
- Check component identification and quantities.
- Resolve discrepancies before packing.
- Coordinate with Design/Production when drawings or components are unclear.
4. Quality Control
- Conduct in-process and final assembly checks.
- Check dimensions, alignment, gaps, finish, hardware, and functionality.
- Ensure doors and drawers operate smoothly.
- Identify scratches, chips, dents, edge-band defects, and finishing issues.
- Segregate defective items and coordinate rectification.
- Ensure only approved products move to packing.
5. Packing Management
- Establish appropriate packing methods according to product type and transportation requirements.
- Ensure furniture is adequately protected against scratches, impact, moisture, and handling damage.
- Ensure correct use of foam, bubble wrap, corner protection, cardboard, stretch film, cartons, pallets, etc.
- Ensure packing is secure but practical for site installation.
- Avoid excessive or unnecessary packing material.
6. Project-Wise Identification
- Ensure all packed components are clearly labelled.
- Identify project, room/location, module number, package number, and installation sequence where applicable.
- Ensure hardware and accessories are packed with the correct furniture.
- Prevent mixing of components from different projects or locations.
7. Dispatch Coordination
- Coordinate with Stores, Planning, Logistics, and Installation teams.
- Confirm packed quantities against dispatch requirements.
- Prepare packing/dispatch checklists.
- Ensure all required components are ready before dispatch.
- Prioritize packing according to site installation sequence.
8. Manpower Management
- Allocate manpower between assembly and packing activities.
- Monitor attendance and productivity.
- Train workers in proper assembly and packing methods.
- Ensure workers handle finished furniture correctly.
- Maintain discipline and housekeeping within the assembly/packing area.
9. Material & Hardware Control
- Monitor availability of assembly hardware, fasteners, adhesives, packing materials, and accessories.
- Prevent loss or misuse of hardware.
- Maintain minimum required packing-material stock.
- Report shortages to Stores/Planning.
- Control wastage of packing materials.
10. Damage & Rework Control
- Minimize damage during assembly, handling, and packing.
- Record damaged components and identify the cause.
- Coordinate replacement or repair of defective components.
- Monitor recurring damage and implement corrective measures.
- Ensure damaged products are not dispatched without approval.
11. Safety & 5S
- Ensure safe handling and lifting of furniture.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE.
- Maintain clear movement paths in the assembly and packing areas.
- Ensure proper storage and stacking of packed furniture.
- Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Prevent unsafe stacking and handling practices.
12. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and report:
- Daily assembly output
- Packing completion
- Project-wise packed quantity
- Rejection/rework
- Damage reports
- Missing components
- Hardware shortages
- Packing material consumption
- Dispatch readiness
- Manpower and productivity
