Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Steel Detailer with strong expertise in Tekla Structures to join our growing engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 3D structural steel models, fabrication drawings, GA drawings, assembly drawings, single-part drawings, and erection drawings for structural steel projects.
This role requires close collaboration with structural engineers, project managers, fabrication teams, and site personnel to ensure all detailing work is accurate, buildable, and delivered within project timelines. In addition to technical responsibilities, the role includes reviewing drawings, mentoring junior detailers, maintaining quality standards, and supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures.
- Prepare General Arrangement (GA), fabrication, assembly, single-part, and erection drawings.
- Generate NC files, material take-offs (MTO), Bills of Materials (BOM), and fabrication reports.
- Review structural and architectural drawings to ensure constructability and accuracy.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, fabrication teams, and site personnel throughout project execution.
- Identify and resolve detailing clashes and technical issues.
- Maintain drawing revisions, documentation, and drawing registers.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, fabrication requirements, and UK structural steel standards.
- Review and check drawings prepared by junior detailers.
- Mentor team members and provide technical guidance.
- Plan, prioritize, and allocate detailing work within the team.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain high-quality detailing standards.
Required Skills
- Expert knowledge of Tekla Structures.
- Strong experience in structural steel detailing.
- Experience preparing fabrication, GA, assembly, and erection drawings.
- Knowledge of steel fabrication and erection processes.
- Ability to interpret structural and engineering drawings.
- Experience generating NC files, BOM, and material schedules.
- Strong understanding of connection detailing and drawing revisions.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership experience in reviewing drawings and mentoring junior team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma, HNC/HND, or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working on UK structural steel projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with UK structural steel standards and industry best practices.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel detailing.
- Proven expertise in Tekla Structures.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection practices.
- Experience leading or mentoring detailing teams.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
