Position Summary
The Nesting Engineer is responsible for preparing optimized nesting layouts for CNC Laser Cutting, Plasma Cutting, Oxy-Fuel Cutting, Waterjet Cutting, and other sheet processing operations. The role focuses on maximizing material utilization, reducing scrap, improving production efficiency, and ensuring accurate cutting plans as per customer drawings and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities1. Nesting & Programming
- Prepare nesting layouts using nesting software.
- Generate CNC programs for Laser, Plasma, Oxy-Fuel, and Waterjet machines.
- Optimize sheet utilization to minimize material wastage.
- Select appropriate cutting parameters based on material type and thickness.
- Verify dimensions and cutting requirements before program release.
2. Drawing Review
- Review fabrication drawings and customer specifications.
- Interpret CAD drawings (2D/3D) and BOMs.
- Coordinate with the Design Department for any drawing clarifications.
- Ensure nesting plans match approved revisions.
3. Material Planning
- Plan sheet sizes and raw material requirements.
- Monitor material consumption and scrap generation.
- Suggest alternate nesting methods to improve material yield.
- Support procurement with accurate material requirements.
4. Production Coordination
- Coordinate with machine operators and production supervisors.
- Resolve cutting-related issues during manufacturing.
- Monitor machine productivity and nesting effectiveness.
- Support urgent production requirements through quick nesting revisions.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain nesting records and CNC program backups.
- Prepare daily material utilization reports.
- Track scrap percentages and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain revision control for programs and drawings.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to reduce material wastage.
- Improve machine cutting efficiency and cycle times.
- Implement best practices for nesting optimization.
- Participate in Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and cost-reduction initiatives.
Required SkillsTechnical Skills
- Knowledge of CNC Laser, Plasma, Oxy-Fuel, and Waterjet cutting processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Experience with nesting software such as:
- SigmaNEST
- FastCAM
- ProNest
- Hypertherm Nesting
- Lantek
- Metalix
- Understanding of fabrication drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes.
- Basic understanding of ERP/MRP systems.

Qualification
- Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
- Certification in CAD/CAM or CNC Programming preferred.
Experience
- Junior Nesting Engineer: 1–3 Years
- Nesting Engineer: 3–5 Years
- Senior Nesting Engineer: 5+ Years
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
