Event Host & Community Builder — Social Beings
Location: Mohali / Chandigarh / Tricity
Job Type: Part-time / Freelance / Event-based
Schedule: Primarily evenings and weekends
Stage: Early-stage startup
Role: Hosting + Community Building + Event Promotion
About Social Beings
Social Beings is a new social experiences startup built around a simple idea: help people meet people in real life again.
We organize curated small-group experiences where people arrive as strangers and leave having actually connected with someone new.
Our events can include conversation nights, social mixers, games, activities, dinners, poker-style social nights and other experiences designed around meeting new people.
We are currently at the very early stage of building Social Beings, so we are not looking for someone who simply wants to show up, host an event and leave.
We would love to find someone who wants to build this with us.
You will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, experiment with new event formats, help develop the Social Beings community and potentially grow into a much larger role as the company grows.
What You’ll Do1. Host Social Beings Events
Your main responsibility will be making sure that a room full of strangers actually becomes social.
You will:
- Personally welcome guests as they arrive.
- Make people feel comfortable from the first few minutes.
- Introduce guests who you think would naturally get along.
- Start conversations when the room becomes quiet.
- Conduct introductions, icebreakers, games and activities when required.
- Keep the energy of the room alive without making the event feel artificial or over-hosted.
- Notice when someone is standing alone, feeling awkward or struggling to enter a conversation.
- Bring quieter or more introverted guests into conversations naturally.
- Prevent one person or group from dominating the entire room.
- Move between different groups and understand the overall mood of the event.
- Help transition between conversations, games, activities, food and other parts of the evening.
- Handle awkward situations or disagreements calmly.
- Make sure guests feel respected, comfortable and included.
- Coordinate with the Social Beings team and venue when required.
You are not supposed to be the centre of attention.
Your job is to make the people in the room connect with each other.
A great host should be able to walk into a room where nobody knows anybody and gradually make it feel like a room where everyone belongs.
2. Help Promote Each Event
Because Social Beings is still being built, this role goes beyond event-day hosting.
For each event, we would also like you to help create approximately 2–3 short promotional videos/ads that can be used on Instagram and other social media.
These could include:
- Short talking-to-camera videos inviting people to the event.
- 10–30 second Instagram Reel-style promotional clips.
- Explaining the concept of a particular Social Beings event.
- Talking about why meeting new people and building real-life connections matters.
- Creating simple, natural promotional content before an event.
- Occasionally appearing in Social Beings social-media content.
- Helping us come up with interesting hooks or concepts for promoting events.
You do not need to be a professional video editor or influencer.
We mainly need someone who is comfortable in front of a camera, communicates naturally and can make people feel that an event is genuinely worth attending.
Our team can handle more technical editing and advertising requirements when needed.
3. Help Us Build Better Events
We want the host to understand the community, not simply follow a script.
After events, you may help us understand:
- What guests enjoyed.
- Where people became uncomfortable or disengaged.
- Which activities worked.
- Which activities felt forced.
- What kind of people attended.
- What guests want from future events.
- What could make the next event better.
If you have an idea for a new Social Beings event, activity, game, conversation format or community concept, we want to hear it.
Who We’re Looking For
You might be perfect for this role if you’re the kind of person who:
- Can comfortably walk up and talk to someone you’ve never met.
- Naturally introduces people to each other.
- Can speak confidently in front of 10–20 people.
- Knows how to keep a conversation going.
- Can sense when somebody feels uncomfortable or excluded.
- Understands when to talk and, equally importantly, when to listen.
- Has good social awareness and emotional intelligence.
- Can make introverted people comfortable without forcing them to participate.
- Has positive energy without being excessively loud.
- Is comfortable appearing in short Instagram videos.
- Is creative and willing to experiment.
- Is dependable and punctual.
- Can think quickly when something doesn’t go according to plan.
- Genuinely enjoys meeting different kinds of people.
Fluency in English and Hindi is preferred. Punjabi is an advantage.
Previous experience in event hosting, theatre, hospitality, public speaking, content creation, community management, customer service, sales, teaching or similar people-facing roles is useful — but not required.
Personality and communication ability matter more to us than your degree or CV.
Early-Stage Startup — Please Read Before Applying
Social Beings is new and currently in its early experimental stage.
We want applicants to understand this before joining.
The initial 2–3 events are intended to be a trial/onboarding and learning phase, during which we determine whether the host, the team and the Social Beings format work well together.
This initial trial period may be unpaid, and this will be discussed and agreed upon clearly before you participate in any event.
After the initial trial phase, successful candidates can move to a paid per-event arrangement, with compensation discussed based on responsibilities, event frequency and the growth of Social Beings.
Please apply only if you are comfortable joining something that is still being built rather than expecting the structure and compensation of an established company from day one.
More Than Just a Hosting Job
The advantage of joining this early is that you aren’t joining after everything has already been decided.
You can help shape it.
If Social Beings grows, we would prefer to grow with the people who helped us build it from the beginning.
Someone joining today as an Event Host could potentially grow into areas such as:
Lead Host Community Manager Event Manager Content & Community Lead City Lead Core Team
The exact opportunities will depend on the person’s performance, commitment and how the company develops.
We are looking for someone who can eventually say:
“I helped build Social Beings,” rather than simply, “I worked events for Social Beings.”
This is not a promise of equity, partnership or a particular future position. It is an opportunity to take meaningful responsibility early and potentially grow with the company.
Professional Standards
Because guests are trusting Social Beings to create a comfortable environment, hosts are expected to maintain professional boundaries.
You must:
- Treat every participant equally and respectfully.
- Never intentionally exclude a guest.
- Never pressure someone into participating in an activity.
- Avoid inappropriate or overly personal comments.
- Avoid favouritism or inappropriate flirting with guests while representing Social Beings.
- Respect guest privacy.
- Avoid unnecessary phone use while hosting.
- Inform the team immediately about serious inappropriate behaviour or safety concerns.
What Does a Successful Event Look Like?
We don’t measure a great host by how much they spoke.
We measure them by what happened between the guests.
At the end of a successful Social Beings event:
- Nobody should feel like they spent the evening alone.
- Guests should have spoken to people they didn’t know before.
- The room should have felt energetic without becoming chaotic.
- Conversations should have happened naturally.
- Guests should feel comfortable and respected.
- People should leave wanting to attend another Social Beings experience.
If strangers walk in slightly nervous and walk out exchanging Instagram handles, phone numbers, making plans or simply saying “I’m glad I came”, you’ve done your job well.
How to Apply
Along with your application, please send us a simple 45–60 second introduction video.
No professional camera or editing is required. A phone video is completely fine.
Tell us:
- Your name and what you currently do.
- Why you think you would be a good Social Beings host.
- How you would make 12 strangers comfortable in a room where nobody knows anyone.
- Whether you’re comfortable appearing in Instagram promotional videos.
- Your availability for evening and weekend events.
Don’t worry about making the video perfect.
We are much more interested in seeing how you communicate and the energy you naturally bring.
Come As Strangers. Leave As Friends.
