Job Summary
The Assistant Workshop Manager supports the Workshop Manager in the day-to-day running of the service workshop — overseeing technicians, ensuring quality repairs, managing job card flow, and maintaining customer satisfaction. The role acts as a bridge between the shop floor and management, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety targets are met.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Operations
- Supervise daily workshop activities — vehicle intake, job allocation, repair progress, and timely closure.
- Monitor bay utilization and technician productivity to minimize vehicle turnaround time (TAT).
- Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and diagnostic machines by technicians.
2. Manpower Management
- Allocate jobs to technicians/mechanics based on skill level and job complexity.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, and productivity of workshop staff.
- Support training and skill development of junior technicians and apprentices.
3. Quality & Compliance
- Conduct quality checks on repaired/serviced vehicles before handover.
- Ensure adherence to OEM (e.g., Ashok Leyland) service standards and safety protocols.
- Reduce comebacks/rework through proper root-cause diagnosis and quality control.
4. Customer Service Support
- Coordinate with service advisors to address customer complaints and escalations.
- Provide technical explanations to customers on repairs, delays, or additional work required.
- Support in vehicle delivery and PDI (pre-delivery inspection) processes.
5. Spare Parts & Inventory Coordination
- Coordinate with spares department for timely availability of parts for jobs in progress.
- Minimize vehicle downtime due to parts unavailability.
- Assist in monitoring fast-moving/slow-moving parts consumption trends.
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain job card records, warranty claims, and service history documentation.
- Assist in preparing daily/weekly workshop performance reports (TAT, revenue, productivity, comebacks).
- Support Workshop Manager in audits (OEM audits, ISO, safety audits).
7. Safety & Housekeeping
- Ensure workshop safety norms (PPE usage, fire safety, hazardous waste disposal) are followed.
- Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards on the shop floor.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma/Degree in Automobile, Mechanical Engineering, or ITI with relevant experience.
- Experience: 3–6 years in a commercial vehicle workshop, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of CV systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electricals), diagnostic tools, and OEM service standards.
- Managerial Skills: Team handling, job scheduling, conflict resolution, basic P&L/productivity understanding.
- Soft Skills: Communication, customer handling, problem-solving, and leadership.
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with DMS/ERP software for job card and reporting management.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
