The Transport Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring transportation activities related to poultry operations, ensuring timely movement of feed, chicks, birds, eggs, medicines, equipment, and farm materials. The role focuses on fleet management, route optimization, cost control, compliance, driver management, and ensuring uninterrupted logistics support across farms, hatcheries, feed mills, and processing units
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Logistics Management
- Plan and manage daily transportation requirements for poultry farms, hatcheries, feed mills, and other operational units.
- Ensure timely delivery of feed, chicks, birds, eggs, medicines, and farm supplies.
- Coordinate vehicle scheduling and route planning to maximize efficiency and minimize transportation costs.
- Monitor vehicle utilization and ensure optimum fleet productivity.
Fleet Management & Driver Management
- Manage company-owned and outsourced vehicles.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed for all vehicles.
- Monitor fuel consumption and implement fuel efficiency measures.
- Maintain records of vehicle repairs, servicing, insurance, permits, and statutory compliance.
- Ensure vehicle fitness and roadworthiness at all times.
- Supervise and manage drivers and transport staff.
- Monitor driver attendance, performance, and compliance with company policies.
- Conduct driver training programs on safety, biosecurity, and vehicle maintenance.
- Ensure drivers possess valid licenses and required certifications.
Cost Control & Budget Management
- Monitor transportation expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Control fuel costs, repair expenses, toll charges, and vendor payments.
- Prepare and manage transport budgets and MIS reports.
- Analyze transportation data and recommend process improvements.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with transport contractors and logistics service providers.
- Negotiate rates and service agreements with transport vendors.
- Work closely with farm managers, hatchery teams, feed mill teams, and operations departments.
- Resolve transportation-related issues promptly to avoid operational disruptions.
Experience
Total years of experience
4–10 years of experience in transportation, fleet management, or logistics operations.
Minimum 3 years of experience in poultry, agriculture, livestock, FMCG, or food industry logistics preferred.
