Role Purpose
To lead and manage manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, cost-effective, and timely production while meeting quality standards and delivery commitments. The role is responsible for optimizing manpower, machines, materials, and processes to achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution
- Execute production plans in alignment with PPC schedules
- Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets
- Monitor production flow and resolve bottlenecks proactively
- Ensure optimum utilization of machines, manpower, and resources
2. Shop Floor Management
- Supervise manufacturing activities across production lines/work centers
- Drive discipline, safety, and adherence to SOPs
- Ensure proper shift planning and manpower allocation
- Monitor productivity and efficiency metrics
3. Quality & Process Compliance
- Ensure products are manufactured as per quality standards and specifications
- Coordinate with Quality team for in-process and final inspections
- Drive reduction in rework, rejection, and process deviations
- Ensure compliance with ISO / regulatory requirements
4. Cost Control & Operational Efficiency
- Improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs
- Minimize wastage, rework, and downtime
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor consumption of raw materials and consumables
5. Coordination with Cross-Functional Teams
- Work closely with:
- PPC → production schedules and priorities
- Procurement/Stores → material availability
- R&D → new product introduction and engineering changes
- Maintenance → equipment uptime
- Quality → process control and corrective actions
6. New Product Introduction (NPI / NPD Support)
- Support pilot builds and productionization of new products
- Provide manufacturability feedback to R&D
- Ensure smooth transition from development to production
7. Maintenance & Equipment Management
- Ensure preventive maintenance adherence
- Minimize machine breakdowns and downtime
- Coordinate with maintenance team for corrective actions
8. Safety, EHS & Compliance
- Ensure safe manufacturing practices on the shop floor
- Maintain compliance with EHS standards and statutory requirements
- Conduct safety reviews and corrective actions
9. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor production supervisors and operators
- Drive skill development and multi-skilling initiatives
- Conduct performance reviews and productivity improvement programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical / Electronics / Industrial / Production or related field)
- MBA / Operations Management preferred (optional)
Experience
- Typically, 8–15 years in manufacturing operations
- Experience in:
- Assembly/manufacturing operations
- Team handling
- Production planning coordination
- Process improvement initiatives
Instrumentation / electronics / engineering manufacturing experience preferred
