About us
SIMHAR is a 250-bed psychiatric hospital in Kerala providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health care. We are seeking a dedicated full-time Resident Medical Officer to provide round-the-clock medical coverage for our inpatient population and support our consultant psychiatrists.
Role overview
The RMO is the first point of medical contact for inpatients, responsible for day-to-day medical management, emergency response, and coordination with the consultant psychiatry team. This is a residential/full-time post well suited to an experienced physician seeking a stable, structured role in a supportive clinical environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 on-site medical coverage on a rostered basis for inpatients
- Conduct admission assessments, daily ward rounds, and monitor physical health of psychiatric inpatients
- Manage medical comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) and respond to medical emergencies
- Liaise with consultant psychiatrists on patient care plans and medication
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with hospital protocols
- Supervise nursing staff on medical matters and support family communication
Requirements
- MBBS from a recognised institution, registered with the relevant State Medical Council / NMC
- Valid medical registration in good standing
- Comfortable managing acute medical situations independently
- Experience in inpatient or general medicine preferred; psychiatric experience an advantage but not essential (training provided)
