Mechanical Engineer – Plastic Enclosure & Injection-Moulded Part Design
Location: On-site (Pollachi, Tamilnadu)
Experience: 3–4 years (minimum)
Type: Full-time
Department: Product Engineering / Mechanical Design

About the Role
We design and manufacture electronics systems for heavy industrial and mining equipment — HMI control panels, camera systems, telemetry units, and instrumentation that has to survive dust, vibration, wide temperature swings, and years of field service. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer who can own the design of the plastic enclosures and moulded parts that house these systems, from concept through tooling and production.
You will work closely with electrical, embedded, and industrial-design teams to turn electronic assemblies into rugged, manufacturable. This is a hands-on design role with real ownership of parts that go into volume production.
What You'll Do
- Design injection-moulded plastic enclosures, housings, bezels, brackets, and trim for industrial electronics products.
- Take parts from concept and CAD through to production tooling — design for manufacturability (DFM), draft angles, wall thickness, ribbing, bosses, snap-fits, living hinges, and gating/parting-line strategy.
- Specify materials suited to harsh environments (e.g. PC, ABS, PC/ABS, glass-filled nylon, PBT) and the right finishes, coatings, and UV/chemical resistance.
- Design for sealing and ingress protection (IP65/IP67), including gasket grooves, O-ring channels, and cable-gland interfaces.
- Account for thermal management, EMI considerations, mounting, and serviceability in the mechanical design.
- Create detailed 2D drawings with GD&T, full BOMs, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Work with toolmakers and moulders on tool design reviews, first-article inspection, and resolving production issues (sink marks, warpage, flash, short shots).
- Build prototypes and validate designs — 3D printing, fit checks, drop/vibration considerations, and design iteration.
- Collaborate with PCB and embedded teams so the mechanical and electronic designs fit together cleanly.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience in mechanical product design, with a clear focus on plastic part and injection-moulded enclosure design.
- Strong working knowledge of injection moulding — process, tooling fundamentals, and DFM principles.
- Proficiency in a 3D parametric CAD tool (SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, or equivalent) and 2D detailing with GD&T.
- Experience selecting plastics and finishes, and matching materials to mechanical, thermal, and environmental requirements.
- Tolerance stack-up analysis and ability to design parts that assemble reliably in production.
- A portfolio of parts you have designed that actually went to tooling and production.
Nice to Have
- Experience with rugged, IP-rated, or industrial/automotive-grade enclosures.
- Familiarity with sheet-metal and die-cast design as a complement to plastics.
- Exposure to electronics packaging — designing around PCBs, displays, connectors, and cable routing.
- Sealing and gasket design experience for ingress protection.
- Thermal and structural simulation (FEA / mould-flow basics).
- Hands-on prototyping with FDM/SLA 3D printing.
- Experience working directly with toolrooms and moulding vendors.
What We're Looking For
Someone who thinks like a product engineer, not just a CAD operator — who understands that a part has to be manufacturable, serviceable, robust, and cost-effective, not just look right on screen. You're comfortable owning a part end-to-end, talking directly to vendors, and iterating fast.
How to Apply
