The Role: Audience Growth & Editorial Producer
We are looking for a prolific writer, headline-master, and SEO strategist who can generate fresh content and seamlessly integrate it with our existing body of work to create high-performing traffic magnets. You will generate fresh content that will resonate with on-page and off-page SEO tenets and revitalize our existing body of work with the highest potential ROI. You will use the historical content as the structural foundation to build a body of original, compelling spin-off articles that dominate current search results and capture modern reader attention.
What You’ll Actually Do:
- The Blueprint (Lead by Example): You won't just execute this strategy in a silo; you will use your original articles and internal linking wins as an active blueprint for the rest of the newsroom.
- Newsroom Mentorship: Translate complex algorithm shifts (from your blog monitoring) into simple, actionable writing tactics for the staff, hosting brief syncs or creating quick cheat-sheets to elevate the whole team’s SEO literacy.
- The Treasure Hunt: Use Google Analytics and Search Console to identify deep archive articles that are "striking distance" of high-value keywords or trending topics, treating our library as your personal research desk.
- The Spin-Off: Instead of editing old work, you will write entirely new, original articles—breaking news expansions, modern follow-ups, opinionated angles, or deep-dive summaries—inspired by the archive data.
- The Internal Engine: Every new piece you write will be masterfully interlinked. You will design a deliberate internal linking strategy that passes fresh traffic and link equity directly back into our core library, elevating the authority of the whole site.
- The Hook: Write irresistible headlines, meta descriptions, and introductions for your new pieces. You’ll also design and optimize high-res lead visual assets to trigger large-image previews for Google Discover eligibility.
- The Structure: Optimize H2s and H3s in your original reporting to win Google Snippets. You will ensure your pieces leverage advanced news schema markup (including NewsArticle, LiveBlogPosting for real-time events, and comprehensive author data to maximize E-E-A-T).
- The Newsroom Monitor: Stay on the bleeding edge of algorithm volatility. You will actively track and translate updates from key publisher SEO authorities (like Search Engine Roundtable, and SEOFOMO) to ensure your original writing aligns with what algorithms are actively rewarding today.
- The Scoreboard: You will own the metrics for the new content engines you build. Your success is measured by the traffic your original pieces generate, their Discover feed impressions, and how effectively they lift the visibility of the archived pieces they link to.
Who You Are:
- An Evangelist, Not a Lone Wolf: You are energized by sharing your wins and coaching other writers. You know how to gently nudging journalists to think about search intent and visual assets without dampming their editorial voice.
- A Visible Leader: You lead through action and data. When your spin-off pieces start hitting Google Discover, you are excited to show the team the exact framework you used so they can replicate it.
- A Fast, Prolific Writer: You love to write and can synthesize existing research, historical data, and complex topics into fresh, punchy, engaging copy quickly.
- A "Click" Psychologist: You understand what makes a human click a link, what keeps them reading, and how to seamlessly guide them from your new article into an archived piece via natural internal links.
- Data-Driven Creative: You don't guess; you look at the keyword volume, search trends, and difficulty, then you write original creative copy to match the immediate market opportunity.
- Headline Obsessive: You probably write 10 headlines before choosing the best one—balancing algorithmic keyword requirements with compelling editorial hooks.
- Always Learning: You treat SEO as an evolving landscape, keeping yourself ahead of industry shifts like Google’s changing core updates and technical news pipelines.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in SEO content writing, digital journalism, or publishing. You must have a portfolio that proves you can write clean, compelling articles under tight turnaround times.
- Demonstrated leadership or mentorship experience within an editorial team, newsroom, or content agency (e.g., previously managing freelancers, coaching junior writers, or leading cross-functional content projects).
- Deep understanding of Link Architecture: You know how internal linking maps authority across a domain and how to use new content to buoy older pages.
- Familiarity with Publisher SEO: You understand the specific differences between traditional search and the rapid-response world of Google News, Google Discover, and Top Stories carousels.
- Proficiency with industry tools: Google Search Console, GA4, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and/or real-time analytics platforms.
Note: We value results over degrees. Show us an original piece of content you wrote, how you structurally linked it to maximize a domain's value, and the traffic results you achieved.
