OB DESCRIPTION – PLANT SECURITY SUPERVISOR
Position: Plant Security Supervisor
Department: Security & Administration
Reports To: Plant Head / HR & Administration Head / Chief Security Officer

1. Job Purpose
To supervise and control all security operations of the plant premises, ensuring the safety and security of employees, visitors, contractors, company assets, raw materials, finished goods, documents and other properties. The Security Supervisor will maintain effective access control, discipline, surveillance, emergency response and coordination with local authorities.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Security Operations
- Supervise security guards and security personnel deployed across the plant.
- Prepare and implement security deployment/shift rosters.
- Ensure proper manning of all gates, critical areas and vulnerable locations.
- Conduct regular rounds and surprise inspections of the plant premises.
- Ensure guards remain alert and properly positioned during duty hours.
- Monitor security arrangements during day, night, holidays and shutdown periods.
B. Gate & Access Control
- Control entry and exit of employees, visitors, contractors and vehicles.
- Ensure proper verification of identity cards, gate passes and authorization documents.
- Maintain visitor, vehicle, material and contractor movement records.
- Control movement of company materials, tools, equipment and scrap.
- Ensure no unauthorized person or material enters or leaves the plant.
- Coordinate with Stores, Dispatch, HR and Administration for material gate passes.
C. Material & Asset Security
- Monitor movement of raw materials, finished products, scrap and company assets.
- Verify material gate passes and supporting documents.
- Prevent pilferage, theft, unauthorized removal or misuse of company property.
- Conduct checks of vehicles, bags and materials in accordance with company policy.
- Immediately report suspected theft, pilferage or security violations.
D. CCTV & Surveillance
- Monitor CCTV coverage of gates, critical operational areas, warehouses, parking areas and other vulnerable locations.
- Ensure CCTV cameras and recording systems remain operational.
- Report CCTV blind spots, equipment failures and suspicious activities.
- Preserve relevant CCTV footage following incidents.
E. Emergency & Incident Management
- Respond promptly to theft, fire, accident, violence, trespassing, unauthorized entry and other emergencies.
- Coordinate with the Fire & Safety Department during fire and emergency situations.
- Assist in emergency evacuation and crowd control.
- Immediately inform the Plant Head/HR/Administration regarding serious incidents.
- Prepare preliminary incident reports and maintain incident records.
- Coordinate with police, fire services and other government authorities when required.
F. Employee & Contractor Discipline
- Monitor compliance with plant entry and security procedures.
- Prevent unauthorized gatherings, loitering, disorderly conduct and access to restricted areas.
- Coordinate with HR and contractor management regarding security-related violations.
- Ensure proper security arrangements during strikes, demonstrations, disciplinary proceedings and other sensitive situations.
G. Shift & Manpower Management
- Allocate duties to security guards according to operational requirements.
- Maintain attendance and deployment records of security personnel.
- Conduct regular briefings before commencement of shifts.
- Ensure proper handover/takeover between shifts.
- Identify absenteeism, negligence and misconduct and report the same to management.
- Train guards regarding emergency response, access control, patrolling and security procedures.
H. Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with Plant Head, HR, Administration, EHS, Operations, Stores, Dispatch and Maintenance.
- Maintain daily security logs and shift reports.
- Submit reports on incidents, violations, unauthorized access and security risks.
- Participate in security audits and risk assessments.
- Recommend improvements in security infrastructure and procedures.
3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero unauthorized entry into restricted areas.
- Zero/minimum cases of theft and pilferage.
- 100% compliance with gate-pass and access-control procedures.
- Effective CCTV monitoring and timely reporting of abnormalities.
- 100% completion of security patrols and shift handovers.
- Timely reporting and response to security incidents.
- Proper attendance and deployment of security manpower.
- Compliance with plant security SOPs.
- Effective emergency response and coordination.
- Accurate maintenance of security registers and records.
4. Authority
The Security Supervisor may:
- Stop unauthorized entry or exit.
- Deny access where required authorization is unavailable.
- Detain/hold suspicious material or vehicles for verification, subject to company policy and applicable law.
- Direct security guards in emergency situations.
- Escalate serious security violations immediately to management.
- Recommend disciplinary action against security personnel for negligence or misconduct.
5. Qualification
Minimum Qualification: Graduate preferred; ex-servicemen/security-management qualification will be an advantage.
6. Experience
- Preferably 5–10 years of experience in industrial/plant security.
- Experience in manufacturing, power, steel, chemical, ethanol, cement or other process industries will be preferred.
- Experience in managing outsourced security agencies and large security teams is desirable.
