About the Role
Plasto-Fab is looking for a Mechanical Design & Estimation Engineer to join our engineering team.
The role is focused on technical design, estimation, drawing preparation, drawing approvals and fabrication support.
The candidate will work closely with the Operations Manager and fabrication team to convert customer requirements into accurate estimates, practical drawings and clear fabrication requirements.
This is a hands-on engineering role, requiring both strong AutoCAD skills and practical knowledge of industrial fabrication.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimation & Technical Enquiries
- Study customer enquiries, drawings and technical specifications.
- Understand the technical requirements of each enquiry.
- Prepare cost estimates, BOQs and material quantity calculations.
- Calculate material and fabrication requirements.
- Revise estimates when customer requirements or drawings change.
- Support the Operations Manager with technical inputs for quotations.
Mechanical Design & AutoCAD
- Prepare 2D mechanical and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare GA drawings, layouts, sections and fabrication details.
- Convert customer requirements into practical fabrication drawings.
- Make drawing revisions based on technical requirements and customer comments.
- Prepare drawings for customer/consultant approval.
- Ensure approved drawing revisions are properly communicated to fabrication.
Drawing Approval & Revision
- Coordinate technical drawing submissions with customers.
- Review customer/consultant comments.
- Make required drawing modifications.
- Maintain proper drawing revisions and documentation.
- Ensure fabrication is carried out using the latest approved drawings.
Fabrication & Technical Support
- Work closely with the fabrication team on the shop floor.
- Understand practical fabrication methods and limitations.
- Provide technical clarification to the fabrication team.
- Check dimensions and fabrication requirements where required.
- Assist in resolving mechanical and fabrication-related issues on the ground.
- Visit project sites when required for measurements, technical checks or clarification.
Coordination
The engineer will coordinate technically with:
Customer → Operations Manager → Fabrication Team
The role is primarily engineering and technical support and does not involve overall operations or project management.
What We’re Looking For
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D.
- Practical experience or understanding of industrial fabrication.
- Knowledge of estimation and BOQ preparation.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and fabrication drawings.
- Understanding of materials, dimensions, fabrication methods and basic mechanical concepts.
- Ability to work both at a computer and on the shop floor.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following will be an advantage:
- Industrial fabrication
- Process equipment fabrication
- FRP/GRP equipment
- Thermoplastic fabrication
- Tanks and vessels
- Scrubber systems
- Industrial ducting
- Chemical/process industry equipment
Who Will Fit This Role?
We need someone who can look at a customer requirement and understand:
What needs to be made → How should it be designed → What material is required → What will it cost → How will it be fabricated → What changes are required for approval → How should the fabrication team execute it?
You should be comfortable moving between AutoCAD, estimation sheets and the fabrication floor.
Reporting
Reports to: Operations Manager
The position provides technical engineering support to operations and fabrication. It does not carry overall responsibility for operations or project management.
