Store Manager — Roles & Responsibilities
A Store Manager is responsible for the overall management and control of materials, components, hardware, finished goods, inventory accuracy, storage systems, and material movement within the modular furniture organization.
1. Overall Store Management
- Manage day-to-day operations of the stores and warehouse.
- Establish systematic processes for receiving, storage, issue, transfer, and dispatch.
- Ensure materials are available to Production, Projects, and Installation as required.
- Maintain proper identification and location of all materials.
- Ensure smooth material flow without unnecessary delays.
2. Material Receiving
- Supervise receipt of materials from suppliers.
- Verify quantities against Purchase Orders and delivery documents.
- Coordinate quality inspection where required.
- Ensure damaged, incorrect, or excess materials are identified and reported.
- Ensure received materials are properly entered into the ERP/system.
3. Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory of:
- Boards and panels
- Laminates and veneers
- Hardware and fittings
- Adhesives and consumables
- Accessories
- Packaging materials
- Finished furniture
- Tools and other store-controlled items
- Establish minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Monitor slow-moving, fast-moving, and obsolete inventory.
- Prevent stock-outs of critical materials.
4. Storage & Material Organization
- Develop an efficient storage and rack-location system.
- Ensure materials are stored according to type, size, specification, and usage.
- Implement proper material identification and labelling.
- Ensure safe stacking and storage.
- Protect materials from moisture, dust, damage, and deterioration.
- Maintain FIFO/appropriate stock rotation where applicable.
5. Material Issue & Control
- Ensure materials are issued only against authorized requests/work orders.
- Verify material type, quantity, and project before issue.
- Maintain records of material issues.
- Monitor material consumption against approved requirements.
- Control unauthorized material movement.
6. Production & Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Planning, Production, Purchase, BSR, Quality, and Project teams.
- Ensure production receives required materials on time.
- Track project-wise material requirements.
- Support installation teams with required hardware and accessories.
- Highlight shortages that could affect production or site delivery.
7. Inventory Accuracy & Stock Verification
- Conduct periodic physical stock counts.
- Reconcile physical stock with ERP/system records.
- Investigate stock discrepancies.
- Implement corrective measures for recurring variances.
- Maintain accurate stock records at all times.
8. Finished Goods Management
- Control receipt of finished furniture from Production/Assembly.
- Verify quantities and identification.
- Store finished goods safely until dispatch.
- Maintain project-wise segregation.
- Coordinate with Dispatch & Logistics for delivery schedules.
- Prevent damage during storage and internal movement.
9. Scrap & Returnable Material Management
- Establish proper areas for scrap and reusable materials.
- Monitor scrap generation and disposal.
- Maintain records of reusable off-cuts.
- Control returnable materials, pallets, racks, tools, and packaging items.
- Ensure scrap is disposed of only through approved procedures.
10. Team Management
- Supervise storekeepers, material handlers, loaders, and warehouse staff.
- Allocate daily responsibilities.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, and productivity.
- Train staff in inventory control, material handling, and safety.
- Conduct regular performance reviews.
11. ERP & Documentation
Ensure timely and accurate recording of:
- Goods Receipts
- Material Issues
- Material Transfers
- Stock Adjustments
- Returns
- Rejections
- Finished Goods Receipts
- Dispatches
- Stock Verification
Maintain proper documentation and audit trails.
12. Safety & 5S
- Maintain safe storage and material-handling practices.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used.
- Maintain clear aisles and emergency access.
- Ensure proper stacking and rack safety.
- Implement 5S within all store areas.
- Ensure fire-safety requirements are followed.
- Report unsafe conditions and incidents.
13. Cost & Inventory Optimization
- Reduce excess and obsolete inventory.
- Minimize material damage and losses.
- Improve warehouse space utilization.
- Reduce unnecessary internal movement.
- Support procurement with accurate stock information.
- Optimize inventory holding levels.
14. Audit & Compliance
- Maintain records required for internal and external audits.
- Ensure store processes comply with company policies.
- Support periodic stock audits.
- Investigate audit discrepancies.
- Implement corrective actions.
