We are seeking a highly skilled, results-driven Production Manager to oversee our PP and PET plastic recycling and scrap processing operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the entire production lifecycle—from the receipt of raw plastic scrap to sorting, washing, crushing, extruding, and pelletizing high-quality recycled resins.
Your primary focus will be optimizing plant efficiency, maximizing throughput, reducing waste, ensuring strict quality standards, and maintaining a culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning & Execution:
- Schedule and oversee daily production runs for PET washing/flaking lines and PP extrusion/pelletizing lines.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, yield recovery rates, cycle times, and equipment downtime.
- Process Optimization & Technical Oversight:
- Manage the operational efficiency of specialized recycling machinery, including optical sorters, shredders, granulators, wash lines, sink-float tanks, and extruders.
- Implement best practices to minimize material loss and contamination (e.g., ensuring PVC or cap contamination in PET lines is kept to a minimum).
- Quality Assurance & Control:
- Partner with the QC lab to ensure final output (reground flakes, pellets, rPET, rPP) meets strict customer specifications regarding moisture, IV (Intrinsic Viscosity), color, and purity.
- Implement protocols to properly grade incoming plastic scrap.
- Team Leadership & Safety:
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of shift supervisors, line operators, and sorting staff.
- Enforce strict OSHA and environmental compliance protocols, ensuring proper handling of any wastewater treatment or chemical byproducts from wash lines.
- Inventory & Maintenance Management:
- Coordinate with the procurement team regarding incoming scrap volumes and grades.
- Work closely with the maintenance department to execute preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, reducing unplanned downtime on high-wear recycling components (knives, screens, dies).
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in plastic manufacturing, with at least 3 years specifically in PP/PET recycling or compounding operations.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of polymer properties, plastic extrusion processes, wash-line dynamics, and mechanical/chemical recycling technologies.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related technical/management field (equivalent hands-on industry experience will be considered).
- Leadership: Proven track record of managing production teams in a 24/7 or multi-shift manufacturing environment.
- Skills: Proficiency in ERP software, production scheduling tools, and Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma methodologies.
