Associate – Business Finance & Accounts
Job Description
Company: Abhinaya Cinemas
Department: Business Finance & Accounts
Location: Head Office, Changanacherry, Kerala
Reports to: Finance Manager
Employment Type: Full-time, on-site
Compensation: ₹20,000 – ₹28,000 per month, based on qualification, skills and assessment
ABOUT THE ROLE
Abhinaya Cinemas is looking for an Associate – Business Finance & Accounts to join our head office finance team.
This is an entry-level role built for someone at the start of their career who wants to learn how money actually
moves through a business — daily box office collections, food & beverage sales, vendor payments, distributor
settlements, payroll and statutory filings — across a multi-location cinema operation with a multi-decade legacy.
The role is deliberately designed for a candidate who is as comfortable with software as with a ledger. A large part
of our finance work is being rebuilt around automation: dashboards instead of manual MIS, system-to-system data
flows instead of re-keying, and validated templates instead of ad-hoc spreadsheets. We want an Associate who will
not simply run the process as it exists, but will look at a recurring task and ask whether it needs to be done by hand at all.
You will be trained on the accounting fundamentals. What you bring is accuracy, curiosity, and an instinct for using technology to do the job better.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Record day-to-day transactions in the accounting system — sales, purchases, expenses, journal entries and bank transactions.
- Maintain accurate ledgers, vouchers and supporting documentation, filed and retrievable.
- Process vendor bills and payments, track advances, and maintain the payables schedule.
- Handle petty cash accounting and expense claims across cinema locations.
Revenue & Reconciliation
- Reconcile daily box office collections against the ticketing system, online aggregator reports and bank credits.
- Reconcile food & beverage / Cafe Abhinaya POS sales, stock movement and cash–card–UPI settlements.
- Perform bank reconciliations and follow up on unmatched or delayed settlements.
- Support distributor and film-hire settlement workings and share calculations.
Statutory & Compliance Support
- Prepare working files for GST returns, TDS and other statutory filings; assist with timely submission.
- Support monthly payroll inputs in coordination with HR — attendance, deductions, PF and ESI schedules.
- Assist with audits by preparing schedules, ledger extracts and supporting documents.
- Maintain compliance calendars and flag due dates before they arrive.
Automation & Systems Improvement
- Build and maintain Excel / Google Sheets models with formulas, validation and pivot-based reporting that replace manual re-keying.
- Identify repetitive finance tasks and propose ways to automate or simplify them.
- Help migrate and clean data as we move processes onto better tools; test new workflows and document them.
- Write and maintain simple SOPs so that every recurring process is repeatable by anyone in the team.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly MIS — collections, occupancy-linked revenue, F&B performance, expense
- summaries.
- Assist with budget versus actual tracking and highlight variances with a plain-English explanation.
- Support the Finance Manager with ad-hoc analysis for management decisions.
- QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.Com, M.Com, or MBA (Finance) — freshers are welcome and encouraged to apply.
- 0–2 years of experience; internships, articleship exposure or academic projects in accounting count.
- Sound understanding of accounting fundamentals — double entry, ledgers, trial balance, and basic financial
- statements.
- Awareness of GST and TDS basics; willingness to learn statutory compliance on the job.
- Strong command of Excel or Google Sheets (formulas, lookups, pivot tables); comfort with Tally or any
- accounting software is an advantage.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Technically fluent. Picks up new software quickly and prefers a system to a sticky note. Familiarity with
- automation tools — advanced spreadsheet functions, Google Apps Script, Power Query, Zoho / Tally
- integrations, or AI tools — is a strong plus.
- Accurate. Treats a mismatched rupee as a problem to be solved, not rounded away.
- Forward thinking. Asks “why is this done this way?” and comes back with a better way.
- Organised. Manages deadlines, filings and month-end without needing to be chased.
- Discreet. Handles financial and payroll information with confidentiality.
- Communicative. Explains numbers clearly to people who are not accountants; working proficiency in English
- and Malayalam.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Ground-floor exposure to the complete finance cycle of a running business — not a single narrow task repeated
- for a year.
- Direct mentoring from the Finance Manager, with real ownership from early on.
- A genuine mandate to modernise how our accounting is done, and the freedom to propose and build those
- improvements.
- A stable, established Kerala cinema brand with an active growth pipeline.
- Clear progression to Senior Associate for candidates who deliver.
To apply, please share your updated CV with the HR team. Abhinaya Cinemas is an equal opportunity employer.
