Job Summary
The Neuro Technician (ENMG) is responsible for performing Electroneuromyography (ENMG) procedures, including Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), and assisting neurologists during Electromyography (EMG) examinations. The technician ensures accurate diagnostic testing, proper operation and maintenance of neurodiagnostic equipment, and provides quality patient care while adhering to hospital policies and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) as per the neurologist's instructions.
- Assist neurologists in conducting Electromyography (EMG) procedures.
- Prepare patients for ENMG procedures by explaining the test and obtaining relevant medical information.
- Position patients appropriately to ensure accurate and comfortable testing.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain ENMG equipment according to manufacturer and hospital guidelines.
- Record, document, and maintain accurate patient data and test results.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the procedure.
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols during all procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the neurodiagnostic laboratory and equipment.
- Coordinate with neurologists, nursing staff, and other departments for smooth patient workflow.
- Report equipment malfunctions promptly and coordinate maintenance when required.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with hospital policies.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and training programs.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or Hospital Management.
- Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Neuro Technology, Neurophysiology Technology, Allied Health Sciences, or a related field.
Skills & Competencies
- Sound knowledge of neurodiagnostic procedures and equipment.
- Ability to perform NCS independently and assist in EMG procedures.
- Good communication and patient counselling skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in electronic medical records.
Working Conditions
- Work in the Neurology Department, Neurodiagnostic Laboratory, OPD, IPD, ICU, and Emergency areas as required.
- May be required to work rotational shifts, weekends, or on-call duties based on hospital requirements.
- Certification in ENMG/Neurodiagnostic Technology is preferred.
- Relevant experience in performing ENMG, NCS, and assisting with EMG procedures is desirable.
