Job title : Quality Assurance Manager
Purpose
To manage end-to-end Quality Assurance functions in heavy engineering fabrication projects, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, international standards, and internal quality systems. The role focuses on QA planning, audits, welding/NDT quality control, customer coordination, and continuous improvement
Tasks / Roles and Responsibilities
1. Project Quality Planning & Execution
· Participate in pre-order, post-order, and feasibility reviews to ensure quality requirements are defined and achievable
· Prepare Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection Test Plans (ITP) where not available
· Define and issue Technical Delivery Conditions to procurement team
· Ensure implementation of codes & standards (ASME, ASTM, API, ISO 3834, EN 1090, etc.)
2. Documentation & Process Control
· Prepare, review, and approve SOPs / Work Instructions for critical activities
· Ensure proper documentation from raw material stage to final inspection
· Monitor traceability, WPS, PQR, WPQR, material certification, and test reports
· Maintain MIS reports, dashboards, and quality records
3. Welding, NDT & Inspection Management
· Oversee welding activities, weld mapping, WPS/PQR qualification
· Ensure NDT compliance (RT, UT, PT, MT) as per standards
· Monitor PWHT, hardness testing, PMI, hydro testing
· Control weld repair rate and drive reduction initiatives
4. Non-Conformance & Complaint Handling
· Handle internal NC and customer complaint reviews with cross-functional teams
· Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and ensure CAPA implementation
· Track and ensure timely closure of non-conformities
5. Audit & Compliance Management
· Conduct daily shop floor audits and raise non-conformities
· Handle internal audits and IMS audits (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
· Coordinate customer audits, TPI inspections, and certification audits
· Ensure readiness for new certifications and surveillance audits
6. Supplier & Vendor Quality Management
· Perform supplier evaluation and re-evaluation
· Conduct vendor audits and capability assessments
· Monitor supplier performance and vendor rating system
7. Calibration & Quality Systems
· Ensure calibration of measuring and testing equipment
· Maintain compliance with IMS standards and quality systems
· Identify quality risks and opportunities and implement mitigation plans
8. Customer & Stakeholder Management
· Coordinate with customers, consultants, and third-party inspectors
· Handle customer feedback and perception analysis
· Ensure customer satisfaction and compliance to requirements
9. Team Management & Training
· Guide QA/QC team, inspectors, and engineers
· Conduct training programs on quality standards, welding, and inspection
· Drive quality culture, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives
Job requirements (education, experience, additional qualifications)
Education:
· Diploma / Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering
Experience:
· Diploma: 15+ years OR
· BE / B.Tech: 10+ years
· Strong experience in heavy fabrication, boilers, pressure vessels, piping, oil & gas projects
Mandatory Skills:
· Strong expertise in Welding, Fabrication, NDT & Inspection
· Certifications: ASNT Level II (RT, UT, PT, MT), CSWIP / CWI
· Knowledge of ASME Codes, ISO 3834, EN 1090, APQP, PPAP
· Experience in QA documentation, audits, vendor quality, and customer coordination
· Strong root cause analysis, SPC, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills:
· Lead Auditor Certification (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001)
· Exposure to international projects (Oil & Gas / Power / Refinery)
· Six Sigma / Lean / 5S implementation
· Strong communication in Tamil, English, Hindi
