An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is a vital allied healthcare professional responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining equipment, ensuring sterile environments, and assisting the surgical team before, during, and after surgeries
Core Job Responsibilities The duties of an OT Technician are strictly categorized into three critical surgical
1. Pre-Operative Phase (Before Surgery)
- Sterilization: Disinfecting the operating table, surfaces, and surgical instruments using autoclave machines to prevent infection risks. [1, 2]
- Equipment Calibration: Checking and setting up advanced medical machinery, including anesthesia machines, ventilators, suction units, and OT lights. [1, 2]
- Trolley Preparation: Loading the surgical trolley with the exact sterile trays, instruments, medications, and drapes needed for the specific surgery type. [1, 2]
- Patient Preparation: Transporting the patient into the OT and safely positioning them on the operating table. [1, 2]
2. Intra-Operative Phase (During Surgery)
- Surgical Assistance: Handing sterile tools, syringes, and gauze to surgeons and scrub nurses quickly and accurately.
- Machine Operation: Managing technical machinery like C-arm imaging systems, cautery units, or suction pumps as requested.
- Vital Monitoring: Helping the anesthesiologist track patient vitals and supplying requested IV fluids or blood units.
- Foreign Object Prevention: Meticulously counting needles, sponges, and instruments alongside the nurse to ensure nothing is retained inside the patient.
3. Post-Operative Phase (After Surgery)
- Patient Transfer: Assisting in shifting the recovering patient safely from the OT table to stretchers and moving them to the recovery room. [1, 2]
- Bio-Waste Management: Disposing of hazardous bio-materials, contaminated needles, and organic waste according to strict hospital waste-segregation protocols. [1, 2]
- Fumigation & Turnaround: Deep cleaning and fumigating the room, logging sterilization data, and setting up for the next consecutive surgery
Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
