Role description
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Unix Patch Engineer with strong expertise in BigFix implementation and Unix patching to manage enterprise patching, compliance, and vulnerability remediation activities across RHEL and AIX environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience administering IBM BigFix, delivering operating system patching during planned maintenance windows, and ensuring high levels of system availability, security, and compliance. This position requires support during weekend and non-business hour maintenance activities. Outside of patching windows, the role operates during standard business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end Unix operating system patching activities using BigFix implementation practices and enterprise patch management processes.
- Perform Unix patching across RHEL and AIX server environments in accordance with organizational patching and remediation requirements.
- Configure, administer, and maintain IBM BigFix components, including Fixlets, baselines, actions, content, and reporting.
- Integrate Unix endpoints into the BigFix infrastructure and ensure accurate agent health, reporting, and compliance status.
- Monitor patch deployments, troubleshoot failures, and implement corrective actions to improve patch compliance.
- Coordinate patching activities with infrastructure, operations, application, and security teams to minimize business impact.
- Perform root cause analysis for patch deployment issues and implement preventive improvements.
- Generate patching, compliance, and vulnerability reports for operational and management stakeholders.
- Maintain patching documentation, standard operating procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Support automation initiatives that improve patch deployment efficiency and operational effectiveness.
- Participate in planned maintenance windows, including weekend and after-hours patching activities.
