Position description: The role involves leading and managing the mechanical operations within the Blast Furnace department at Jindal Ferrous Limited, a key player in steel industry. The position requires overseeing the maintenance, optimization, and reliability of blast furnace mechanical systems to ensure continuous and efficient production. The candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, team leadership, and implementation of best practices to enhance operational performance, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This role demands a seasoned professional with extensive experience in heavy industrial mechanical systems, particularly in blast furnace (more than 1000 m3 capacity) environments, capable of driving innovation and operational excellence in a challenging and dynamic setting.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the mechanical maintenance and operational activities of the blast furnace to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Execute real-time repairs on critical equipment including the blast furnace top (bell/bell-less top), distribution chutes, and gas seals, GCP, Pump house, SGP, STOVE, material handling conveyors etc
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability and lifespan.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and safety to align mechanical operations with overall plant objectives.
- Oversee the troubleshooting and resolution of complex mechanical issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
- Manage budgeting, resource allocation, and procurement of mechanical parts and services to support blast furnace operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards specific to blast furnace mechanical systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through root cause analysis, process optimization, and adoption of new technologies.
- Mentor and develop a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and safety awareness.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on mechanical performance, maintenance activities, and project progress to senior management.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for specialized mechanical services and equipment upgrades.
