School Lab Assistant
Job Description
The School Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting science teachers with laboratory activities, preparing equipment and materials for practical classes, maintaining laboratory cleanliness and safety, and ensuring all laboratory resources are properly stored and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials for practical lessons.
- Assist teachers and students during laboratory experiments.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the laboratory.
- Keep an inventory of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and consumables.
- Report damaged or missing equipment and arrange for repairs or replacements.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals and laboratory materials.
- Follow school safety policies and laboratory safety procedures.
- Dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines.
- Maintain records of laboratory stock, purchases, and equipment maintenance.
- Support science exhibitions, projects, and other laboratory-related activities.
- Ensure first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment are accessible and in working condition.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; a diploma or bachelor's degree in Science or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or educational environment is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and safety practices.
- Computer skills for maintaining records and inventory are desirable.
