Description
The L2 Network Engineer is responsible for providing advanced operational support, troubleshooting, and maintenance across customer network environments within a managed services and enterprise infrastructure setting. The role focuses on resolving escalated network incidents, implementing standard changes, maintaining network stability, and supporting service availability across LAN, WAN, wireless, firewall, and cloud-connected environments.
The role requires strong technical expertise, analytical problem-solving capability, and a proactive approach to maintaining secure, resilient, and high-performing network services.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose LAN/WAN and user connectivity issues
Investigate site-level or connectivity alerts
Resolve LAN issues, wireless faults, and site connectivity problems
Investigate branch connectivity and ISP issues
Troubleshoot VPN or remote connectivity issues
Assist with troubleshooting and coordination
Support firewall troubleshooting requests
Execute standard network changes
Support automated configuration deployment
Investigate network paths affecting hosted services
Investigate performance degradation
Update operational procedures
Provide operational insights from L2 troubleshooting
Key Requirements
Previous experience in a Network Engineer, NOC Engineer, or infrastructure support role within an enterprise or managed services environment
Strong understanding of networking principles including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP, NAT, QoS, and high availability technologies
Experience supporting enterprise network technologies from vendors such as Cisco, F5, Azure.
Ability to troubleshoot complex network incidents across LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, wireless, VPN, and firewall environments
Experience implementing network changes in accordance with change management processes and operational standards
Working knowledge of firewall policies, access control, and network security best practices
Experience working with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, and operational procedures
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly
Experience supporting cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure environments would be advantageous
Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent are desirable
