Safety & Compliance Manager – U.S. Trucking Operations
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety & Compliance Manager to join our growing transportation team. This role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining compliance with U.S. trucking regulations, while leading safety initiatives that promote a strong culture of accountability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing FMCSA and DOT compliance requirements, working closely with drivers, dispatch, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and compliant fleet operations in a fast-paced cross-border trucking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with FMCSA and DOT regulations.
- Continuously review and improve internal safety programs to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
- Oversee compliance with Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements and testing programs.
- Promote a company-wide safety culture through communication, accountability, and leadership.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS), ELD requirements, driver qualification files, and vehicle maintenance regulations.
- Manage and monitor FMCSA safety scores (CSA), roadside inspections, and violation tracking.
- Oversee IFTA, IRP, permits, and other regulatory licensing requirements for U.S. operations.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure DOT inspections and preventive maintenance schedules are maintained.
Driver & Fleet Safety Oversight
- Maintain accurate and compliant Driver Qualification Files (DQFs) and fleet records.
- Manage driver onboarding, including safety orientation, compliance documentation, and policy training.
- Monitor driver performance, violations, and safety metrics to proactively address risks.
Training & Safety Education
- Develop and coordinate ongoing safety and compliance training programs for drivers and operational staff.
- Communicate regulatory updates, company policies, and safety best practices.
- Provide guidance to dispatch and operations teams on compliance-related matters.
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
- Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and safety violations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit required reports to internal management, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies when necessary.
- Implement preventative measures to reduce future safety incidents.
Audits & Compliance Reporting
- Conduct internal safety and compliance audits to ensure readiness for FMCSA reviews and DOT audits.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records for regulatory compliance and audit purposes.
- Prepare compliance reports and performance updates for management.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in U.S. trucking safety and compliance management preferred.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA, DOT, HOS, ELD, and safety regulations.
- Experience managing driver qualification files, safety records, and compliance documentation.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proficiency with compliance software, spreadsheets, and standard office tools.
