Job Title: Head Cashier
Department: Store Operations
Reports To: Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager
Job Summary
The Head Cashier is responsible for overseeing all cashiering operations, ensuring accurate billing, cash handling, excellent customer service, and smooth functioning of checkout counters. The role includes supervising cashiers, managing cash reconciliations, resolving customer concerns, and supporting store sales and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities Cash Management
- Ensure accurate cash handling, billing, and transaction processing.
- Monitor daily cash collections, deposits, and cash reconciliation.
- Verify till balances and investigate any cash discrepancies.
- Maintain records of cash inflow, refunds, exchanges, and void transactions.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support cashier staff during store operations.
- Prepare cashier duty rosters and break schedules.
- Train new cashiers on POS systems, billing procedures, and customer service standards.
- Monitor cashier performance and provide coaching when required.
Customer Service
- Handle customer queries, complaints, refunds, and exchange requests professionally.
- Ensure a smooth and fast checkout experience.
- Maintain high customer satisfaction standards.
POS & Billing Operations
- Ensure proper functioning of POS machines, scanners, card terminals, and billing systems.
- Coordinate with IT/support teams to resolve system issues.
- Monitor promotional offers, discounts, loyalty programs, and gift card transactions.
Compliance & Control
- Adhere to company policies, SOPs, and audit requirements.
- Ensure compliance with cash handling and loss prevention procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
Store Support
- Assist the Store Manager in achieving sales targets.
- Coordinate with sales floor teams during peak hours.
- Support store opening and closing activities.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate in any discipline (preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience in retail cashiering, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Experience using POS systems and retail billing software.
