Diesel Generator (DG) Operator
Job Summary
The DG Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting diesel generator sets to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The role includes routine inspections, preventive maintenance, fuel management, and maintaining operational records while adhering to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate diesel generator sets safely and efficiently.
- Monitor generator performance, including voltage, current, frequency, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel levels.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of DG equipment.
- Start and stop generators as required during power outages or scheduled operations.
- Carry out basic preventive maintenance such as checking engine oil, coolant, battery, belts, filters, and lubrication.
- Identify and report equipment faults and coordinate with maintenance technicians for repairs.
- Maintain fuel inventory and ensure timely refueling.
- Keep the DG room clean and ensure proper housekeeping.
- Record generator running hours, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and breakdowns in logbooks.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company operating procedures.
- Assist during emergency power restoration and testing activities.
Qualifications
- ITI/Diploma in Electrical, or a related technical field (preferred).
- Minimum 0.6-2 years of experience operating diesel generators.
- Knowledge of DG control panels, AMF panels, and electrical safety practices.
- Ability to read basic technical manuals and operating instructions.
