Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients. The consultant will work closely with psychologists, psychiatric nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment & Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for new and follow-up patients.
- Obtain detailed psychiatric, medical, family, social, and personal history.
- Perform mental status examinations and assess psychological and behavioral concerns.
- Diagnose psychiatric and related mental health conditions based on clinical assessment and applicable diagnostic guidelines.
- Assess risk related to suicide, self-harm, aggression, substance use, and other psychiatric emergencies.
2. Treatment & Clinical Management
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on the patient's clinical condition.
- Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications appropriately.
- Monitor treatment response, side effects, medication adherence, and overall clinical progress.
- Modify treatment plans when clinically indicated.
- Provide appropriate psychoeducation to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment, medication, and relapse prevention.
- Refer patients for psychological therapies, occupational therapy, rehabilitation, or other interventions when appropriate.
3. Inpatient & Outpatient Care
- Provide psychiatric consultations for both OPD and inpatient patients, as applicable.
- Conduct regular inpatient reviews and document clinical progress.
- Participate in admission, discharge, transfer, and treatment planning processes.
- Ensure appropriate follow-up plans are established before discharge.
- Respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies and changes in patient condition.
4. Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Work collaboratively with psychologists, psychiatric nurses, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Provide clinical guidance to the treatment team when required.
- Coordinate with other medical specialties for patients with co-existing medical conditions.
- Ensure continuity of care across different stages of treatment.
5. Clinical Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Document assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, medication changes, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure clinical documentation meets hospital standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
6. Patient & Family Communication
- Communicate diagnosis and treatment plans clearly and professionally.
- Address patient and family concerns with empathy and sensitivity.
- Explain medication benefits, risks, precautions, and expected outcomes.
- Encourage patient participation in treatment and recovery planning.
7. Emergency & Risk Management
- Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies appropriately.
- Evaluate patients presenting with suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, aggression, severe behavioral disturbances, psychosis, mania, withdrawal, or other acute psychiatric conditions.
- Follow hospital emergency, safety, restraint, and escalation protocols where applicable.
- Ensure appropriate referral or transfer when a patient's clinical needs exceed the hospital's available resources.
8. Quality & Professional Responsibilities
- Follow hospital clinical protocols, ethical standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement activities, and hospital accreditation initiatives.
- Contribute to development and review of psychiatric treatment protocols where required.
- Maintain professional development and stay updated with current psychiatric practices and evidence-based treatment approaches.
- Participate in clinical meetings, training programs, and academic activities as required.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Psychiatry or an equivalent recognized postgraduate qualification.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) / applicable State Medical Council.
- Candidates must meet all applicable statutory requirements to practice as a psychiatrist in India.
Experience
- Freshers and experienced as a Psychiatrist/Consultant Psychiatrist preferred.
- Candidates with relevant postgraduate clinical experience may also be considered.
- Experience in psychiatric hospitals, mental health facilities, or multidisciplinary healthcare settings will be an advantage.

- Experience with substance-use disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and other common psychiatric conditions.
- Willingness to participate in hospital clinical and academic activities.

Salary/Consultation Fee: As per experience, qualification, and hospital pay structure.

Note: The role and scope of clinical responsibilities will be subject to the consultant's qualifications, registration, hospital privileges, and applicable statutory requirements.
Pay: ₹70,000.00 - ₹150,000.00 per month
