Job Summary
The Agriculture Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring agricultural activities to ensure optimum crop production and sustainable farming practices. The role includes providing technical guidance, managing field operations, monitoring soil health, pest control, irrigation, and ensuring compliance with agricultural standards and government regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesCrop Planning & Management
- Plan and supervise seasonal crop cultivation activities.
- Recommend suitable crops based on soil, climate, and market demand.
- Monitor crop growth and recommend corrective measures where required.
- Maintain crop production schedules and records.
Field Operations
- Supervise land preparation, sowing, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting.
- Ensure efficient utilization of agricultural equipment and resources.
- Monitor daily farm activities and labor productivity.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and farm workers.
Soil & Water Management
- Conduct soil sampling and recommend appropriate fertilizers.
- Monitor irrigation systems and water management practices.
- Promote sustainable soil conservation techniques.
Pest & Disease Management
- Identify crop diseases and pest infestations.
- Recommend and monitor integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
- Ensure safe handling and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with government agricultural regulations.
- Maintain records of inputs, yields, and production costs.
- Implement Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and environmental standards.
- Prepare periodic reports on farm performance.
Training & Technical Support
- Guide field staff and farmers on modern agricultural techniques.
- Conduct awareness and training programs on crop management and best farming practices.
- Introduce new technologies and improved farming methods.
Inventory & Resource Management
- Monitor stock of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural inputs.
- Raise purchase requisitions as required.
- Ensure proper storage and inventory control.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture (B.Sc. Agriculture).
- Master's Degree in Agriculture is an added advantage.
Experience
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in agriculture, horticulture, plantation, or farm management.
- Experience in large-scale agricultural or infrastructure projects is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of crop production and agronomy.
- Knowledge of soil science, irrigation, and pest management.
- Familiarity with agricultural machinery and modern farming techniques.
