A Clinical Coordinator in a radiology centre (MRI, CT, USG) plays a key role in ensuring smooth clinical operations, patient care, and coordination between departments. Here are the main roles and responsibilities:
1. Patient Coordination & Care
- Register and guide patients through procedures (MRI, CT, Ultrasound).
- Explain preparation steps (e.g., fasting, contrast use).
- Ensure informed consent is obtained before procedures.
- Address patient concerns, anxiety, or questions.
2. Scheduling & Workflow Management
- Schedule appointments efficiently for MRI, CT, and USG.
- Prioritize emergency and urgent cases.
- Coordinate with doctors, technicians, and nursing staff to minimize delays.
- Manage patient flow to avoid overcrowding.
3. Coordination with Medical Team
- Act as a link between radiologists, technicians, and referring doctors.
- Ensure correct clinical history and indications are documented.
- Communicate urgent findings to physicians promptly.
- Assist radiologists in workflow organization.
4. Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate patient records and imaging data.
- Ensure reports are properly recorded and delivered.
- Handle digital systems (RIS/PACS).
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
5. Quality & Safety Management
- Ensure protocols are followed for MRI, CT, and USG procedures.
- Monitor patient safety (e.g., MRI contraindications, contrast allergies).
- Maintain infection control practices.
- Assist in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
6. Procedure Support
- Assist in preparing patients for contrast studies.
- Coordinate IV access or sedation if required.
- Support during interventional or special radiology procedures.
7. Billing & Administrative Support
- Verify patient details, insurance, and billing processes.
- Ensure proper coding of procedures.
- Coordinate with front desk and billing department.
8. Communication & Follow-Up
- Inform patients about report availability.
- Handle calls and inquiries from patients and doctors.
- Follow up on pending reports or incomplete cases.
9. Equipment & Resource Coordination
- Coordinate maintenance schedules for MRI, CT, and ultrasound machines.
- Ensure availability of consumables (contrast media, films, etc.).
- Report equipment issues promptly.
10. Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Track daily case volumes and turnaround times.
- Generate reports for management.
- Help improve operational efficiency.
