Job Summary
The Zonal Pharmacy Head is responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations across multiple hospitals, clinics, or pharmacy outlets within an assigned zone. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, standardization of pharmacy practices, inventory optimization, financial performance, and delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmaceutical services.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee pharmacy operations across all assigned locations.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
- Monitor prescription dispensing accuracy and medication safety practices.
- Standardize pharmacy processes and implement operational improvements.
Inventory & Supply Chain
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted medicine availability.
- Optimize stock levels and reduce expiry, wastage, and non-moving inventory.
- Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, and vendors for timely replenishment.
- Conduct regular stock audits and ensure inventory accuracy.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, licensing requirements, and quality standards.
- Maintain all statutory records and documentation.
- Support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and supervise pharmacy managers and pharmacy staff across the zone.
- Identify staffing requirements and support recruitment, onboarding, and training.
- Conduct performance reviews and develop succession plans.
- Foster a culture of patient safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Financial Management
- Monitor pharmacy revenue, expenses, and profitability.
- Track key financial and operational performance indicators.
- Implement cost-control measures without compromising quality or patient care.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
Quality & Patient Safety
- Ensure safe storage, dispensing, and handling of medicines.
- Monitor medication errors, investigate incidents, and implement preventive measures.
- Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives across all pharmacy units.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with hospital administrators, medical teams, nursing leadership, procurement, finance, and quality departments.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and regulatory authorities.
- Resolve operational issues and escalate critical concerns appropriately.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm); Master's degree in Pharmacy (M.Pharm), MBA, or Hospital Administration is preferred.
- Valid pharmacist registration as required by the applicable regulatory authority.
- 10–15 years of pharmacy experience, including at least 5 years in a multi-unit or regional leadership role.
