Key ResponsibilitiesAssessment & Diagnosis:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, and communication abilities using standardized tests and clinical observations.
- Diagnose speech and language disorders, including articulation, phonology, fluency, voice, and receptive/expressive language delays.
- Develop individualized therapy plans (ITPs) in collaboration with the family and team.
Therapeutic Interventions:
- Design and deliver evidence-based therapy sessions tailored to meet the child’s communication needs.
- Utilize strategies such as articulation therapy, language development techniques, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) as needed.
- Incorporate play-based and interactive methods to engage children during therapy sessions.
- Address feeding and swallowing challenges, if applicable, using oral-motor techniques.
Parent & Caregiver Training:
- Educate parents and caregivers on strategies to support speech and language development at home.
- Conduct workshops or group sessions on topics like promoting language stimulation and encouraging communication skills.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Work in close coordination with occupational therapists, behavior therapists, psychologists, and educators to create holistic therapy plans.
- Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and progress reviews to optimize therapy outcomes.
- Provide recommendations to the team on integrating communication goals into other therapy activities.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress updates.
- Monitor and update therapy goals based on the child’s progress and family input.
- Contribute to periodic reports for parent reviews and inter-disciplinary case evaluations.
