Putting safety first—always
The Safety Manager will lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs for industrial facilities within JLL's Property & Development Solutions (PDS) division. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and protect the wellbeing of employees, contractors, and visitors across industrial operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Program Management
Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety programs tailored to industrial environments including manufacturing, warehousing, distribution centers, and logistics facilities. Establish safety policies, procedures, and standards that align with OSHA regulations, local jurisdictions, and JLL best practices. Lead incident investigation processes, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations including OSHA standards, EPA requirements, and industry-specific codes. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across assigned industrial properties. Maintain accurate safety documentation, permits, and reporting systems. Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risks.
Training and Development
Design and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and management teams covering topics such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fall protection, forklift operations, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response. Develop site-specific safety orientation programs for new hires and contractors. Foster a strong safety culture through ongoing education, communication campaigns, and behavioral-based safety initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness
Develop and maintain emergency response plans including fire safety, chemical spills, natural disasters, and workplace violence scenarios. Coordinate emergency drills and exercises to ensure preparedness. Serve as primary liaison with emergency services, regulatory agencies, and insurance providers during incidents.
Safety Performance Monitoring
Track, analyze, and report on key safety metrics including incident rates, near-miss reports, safety observations, and leading indicators. Present safety performance data and improvement recommendations to senior leadership and client stakeholders. Benchmark performance against industry standards and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with operations teams, facility managers, clients, and contractors to integrate safety into daily operations and project planning. Participate in pre-construction safety reviews and contractor safety qualification processes. Build strong relationships with regulatory agencies and industry safety organizations.
Required QualificationsEducation and Certification
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field required. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or equivalent certification strongly preferred. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification required; OSHA 510/511 or additional specialized certifications highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum 5-7 years of progressive safety management experience in industrial environments such as manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or logistics operations. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs from ground up. Proven track record of achieving measurable safety performance improvements and regulatory compliance. Experience working in multi-site or portfolio management environment preferred.
Technical Knowledge
Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA codes, and EPA requirements applicable to industrial operations. Deep understanding of industrial safety hazards including powered industrial vehicles, material handling equipment, chemical processes, confined spaces, and fall hazards. Proficiency in incident investigation methodologies, job safety analysis, and risk assessment techniques. Experience with safety management software systems and data analytics tools.
Skills and Competencies
Exceptional communication and presentation skills with ability to influence at all organizational levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment. Proven leadership skills with ability to drive safety culture change. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management information systems.
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsRegular site visits to industrial facilities requiring extended periods of walking, standing, and navigating active operational areas. Ability to climb ladders, access elevated areas, and enter confined spaces when conducting inspections. Exposure to industrial environments including noise, temperature variations, and various operational hazards (with appropriate PPE). Valid driver's license required for travel between multiple facilities within assigned portfolio.
