About the Role
We are looking for a high-performing and entrepreneurial Senior / Business Development Manager
to drive growth in the SME (Small & Medium Enterprises) segment.
The role involves identifying SME clients, understanding their business risks, and designing
customised insurance solutions across property, liability, employee benefits, and other commercial
lines.
This is a client-facing, revenue-generating role requiring strong relationship management,
consultative selling, and deep understanding of SME risk landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Revenue Growth
Identify, prospect, and acquire new SME clients across manufacturing, trading, services, and
emerging sectors.
Build and manage a strong pipeline of SME opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, and
networking.
Achieve assigned revenue, premium, and profitability targets.
Develop long-term client relationships to drive repeat business and cross-sell opportunities.
2. Client Need Assessment & Risk Understanding
Engage with SME promoters / finance heads to understand business operations, risks, and
exposures.
Conduct detailed risk profiling across property, liability, employee-related risks, and business
interruption scenarios.
Translate client needs into practical insurance solutions.
3. Solution Design & Advisory
Design customised insurance programs including Fire & Property, Marine & Transit, Liability
Covers, Group Health, Personal Accident, Engineering & Specialty Covers.
Work closely with insurers to structure competitive quotes and coverage terms.
Present solutions in a consultative and value-driven manner.
4. Relationship Management
Build strong relationships with clients, insurers, and internal teams.
Act as a trusted advisor and ensure high retention and satisfaction.
Manage renewals proactively.
5. Market Intelligence & Strategy
Track market trends, competitor offerings, and pricing benchmarks.
Identify emerging SME opportunities and provide insights to leadership.
6. Coordination & Execution
Coordinate with internal teams for seamless execution.
Support clients during claims and ensure compliance with IRDAI regulations.
Key Requirements
Experience & Background
7–15 years in insurance broking, agency, or corporate sales.
Experience in SME/commercial insurance preferred.
Proven business development track record.
Skills & Competencies
Strong consultative selling skills.
Understanding of SME risks and insurance products.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to build CXO-level relationships.
Entrepreneurial mindset with high ownership.
Educational Qualification
Graduate in any discipline (MBA preferred).
III / IRDAI certifications are an advantage.
