- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Valid NDT Level II Certification in RT, UT, MT, PT (as applicable) in accordance with ASNT/ISO 9712.
- CSWIP 3.1, BGAS, or AWS CWI certification will be an added advantage.
Job Summary
The Piping/Tank Quality Engineer is responsible for implementing QA/QC activities related to piping fabrication, erection, storage tanks, pressure vessels, and associated mechanical works. The role includes inspection, quality surveillance, coordination with clients and third-party inspection agencies, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance & Quality Control
- Execute and monitor QA/QC activities for piping and tank fabrication, erection, and testing.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans, and Method Statements.
- Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, and fabrication drawings.
- Conduct stage-wise inspections during fabrication, welding, fit-up, erection, hydrostatic testing, and final acceptance.
- Verify material traceability, identification, and documentation.
Inspection Activities
- Perform visual inspections before, during, and after welding.
- Coordinate and witness NDT activities.
- Review NDT reports and ensure compliance with acceptance criteria.
- Inspect dimensional accuracy, alignment, fit-up, and welding quality.
- Witness hydrostatic, pneumatic, leak, and pressure tests.
- Conduct final inspection prior to handover.
NDT Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret NDT examinations as per Level II certification scope.
- Coordinate with third-party NDT agencies.
- Review NDT procedures and reports.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Documentation
- Prepare inspection reports and quality records.
- Maintain welding traceability records.
- Review Material Test Certificates (MTCs), WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification Records.
- Maintain punch lists and closure records.
- Prepare Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs), final QA dossiers, and turnover documentation.
Client & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate inspections with clients, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies.
- Attend quality meetings.
- Resolve quality issues in coordination with construction and engineering teams.
- Support vendor inspections and audits.
Quality Improvement
- Raise and monitor Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Participate in internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of ASME B31.3, ASME Section V, VIII, IX, API 650, API 620, API 653, ASTM, and relevant international standards.
- Strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW).
- Familiarity with fabrication, erection, and inspection of piping systems and storage tanks.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Knowledge of quality documentation and inspection procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office and quality documentation software.
Required Certifications
- NDT Level II Certification (RT/UT/MT/PT) as applicable.
- ASNT Level II or ISO 9712 equivalent.
- CSWIP 3.1/AWS CWI (Preferred).
