Job Summary
The Plant Head is responsible for leading the overall manufacturing operations of a medical equipment manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements while achieving production, cost, delivery, safety, and profitability objectives. The role involves managing precision machining, fabrication, finishing, assembly, quality assurance, maintenance, and supply chain activities.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Operations
- Lead end-to-end manufacturing operations, including:
- Swiss CNC Machining
- VMC Machining
- CNC Turning
- Wire Cut EDM
- Spark EDM
- TIG/Laser Welding
- Passivation and Surface Finishing
- Assembly and Packaging
- Ensure optimum machine utilization and production efficiency.
- Develop production plans to meet customer delivery schedules.
- Improve productivity through Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and implement corrective actions.
Production Planning & Control
- Coordinate with planning, procurement, and stores to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Optimize manpower allocation and machine scheduling.
- Ensure adherence to production targets and on-time delivery.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- ISO
- FDA/QMS requirements (where applicable)
- Drive CAPA, NCR, Root Cause Analysis, and Risk Management activities.
- Ensure process validation and equipment qualification.
- Maintain complete production documentation and traceability.
Engineering & Process Improvement
- Develop robust machining and manufacturing processes.
- Reduce cycle time and manufacturing costs.
- Improve process capability (Cp/Cpk).
- Lead new product industrialization and process validation.
- Implement automation wherever feasible.
Maintenance
- Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of all manufacturing equipment.
- Minimize machine breakdowns.
- Manage tooling, fixtures, gauges, spare parts, and calibration systems.
Supply Chain & Inventory
- Coordinate with procurement for raw material availability.
- Optimize inventory levels.
- Control production costs and reduce waste.
People Management
- Lead production, quality, maintenance, planning, engineering, and stores teams.
- Build a high-performance culture.
- Conduct performance reviews and skill development programs.
- Ensure employee engagement and succession planning.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure compliance with EHS regulations.
- Promote a zero-accident workplace.
- Drive 5S, Kaizen, and safety initiatives.
Financial Responsibility
- Prepare and manage annual operating budgets.
- Monitor manufacturing costs and improve profitability.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality.

Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering.
- MBA (Operations) is preferred.
Experience
- 15–20 years in precision engineering or medical device manufacturing.
- Minimum 5 years in a Plant Head or Operations Head role.
- Proven experience in medical equipment or medical implant manufacturing.
