Job Summary
The Transport Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing daily transportation operations to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of goods. The role focuses on fleet utilization, vendor management, route optimization, compliance, and team leadership while maintaining high service levels and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage daily vehicle allocation based on customer requirements.
- Ensure on-time pickup and delivery of consignments.
- Monitor fleet utilization and improve vehicle productivity.
- Coordinate with warehouse, operations, and customers for smooth transportation activities.
- Manage transport vendors and negotiate rates when required.
- Track vehicles using GPS and ensure timely updates.
- Monitor fuel consumption and implement cost-control measures.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including vehicle permits, insurance, fitness certificates, PUC, and driver documentation.
- Handle transportation-related escalations and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Maintain transportation MIS reports, trip sheets, and performance dashboards.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company SOPs.
- Lead and supervise transport coordinators, drivers, and support staff.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and operational meetings.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce transportation costs and improve service quality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline (Logistics or Supply Chain preferred).
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of transportation operations and fleet management.
- Excellent planning and route optimization skills.
- Vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of transportation laws and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP, and Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
